keyworker

Hello all, i'm new to this but just wanted to know how you manage a key worker system within your nursery. I've got 24 children in my nursery which is attached to a school. There are 3 staff,2 qualified and 1 not. I really want to introduce a keyworker system but unsure how i can make it work. Should i give the unqualified member of staff children or should the two qualified staff split the 24 having 12 each? if you've got key children, do you just observe them ? and not take into account the other children ? eeek please help thanks in advance

profile judgements

Hi, I am interested to know if anyone else has been on profile judgements training? I attended last week and we looked through all the ELGs and age bands in Dev. Matters with a view to how to make judgements for the FSP in June for emerging, expected and exceeding. Looking closely at some of the wording of the ELGs it was pointed out that they equate to Level 1 NC and therefore if we are to assess any children with exceeding we need to be showing evidence that they are achieving Level 2 ! so it's not very likely we'll been making exceeding judgements. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Hi all, I have copied and pasted this from the DfE website today: Following trials of the new EYFSP assessment over the summer, the Government has now set out how the new Good Level of Development measure will be defined. From 2013, children will be defined as having reached a good level of development at the end of the EYFS if they achieve at least the expected level in: the early learning goals in the prime areas of learning (personal, social and emotional development; physical development; and communication and language) and; the early learning goals in the specific areas of mathematics and literacy. As Dame Clare Tickell’s review of the EYFS made clear, …

I'm looking for inspiration. My children wanted to learn about China for our Around the World theme, first it was animals especially Pandas which inspired some fantastic writing from them. They also want to learn about (their words) 'what people in China look like and sound like'. One little girl has brought in her Chinese dresses and her daddy has been teaching her some mandarin words - I think he's either worked or lived in China and as she's really quite a shy little one I'd like to make the most of this but I'm wary of becoming too stereotyped in what we look at. The class has no mix of ethnicities at all. Any ideas/suggestions?

Planning for continuous provision
by Guest- 1 reply

Wondered if anyone could offer some advice - I have started work in a 3 form entry school with a nursery . When it comes to planning continuous provision for our classes we all do our own thing and at the moment I plan for the outdoor CP for everyone. Can I ask how other people plan for CP and also as nursery use the same outdoor space I don't feel I should plan for them as I don't know what they need !

This is a tall order I know but hopefully someone will understand/be able to assist me. I have to overhaul assessment (ofsted inspection recommendations). The Early Years specialist advised me to assess the children against EYFS specifically. The school I am in used their own assessment that basically consisted of - can they speak english, can they understand instructions and what (if any) skills do they have in literacy/numeracy already. I know that we should be assessing using the profile but I am struggling to see the bigger picture. The children are only with me and the other teachers for approx 1 hour (don't separate particularly well either, more so for m…

Hi all, I am writing a transitions plan, for a little girl in our setting age 2 1/2 who has several major transitions coming up: 1. her brother who usually attends nursery, with her will be leaving to go into a school, she will also now be attending 5 morings a week instead of three. 2. she will be moving into a new house, and there will have her own bedroom and be sleeping alone rather than with her brother as in their old house. 3 her mother is pregnant and expecting her third baby in a few months. would appreciate thoughts/advice on ways we could support her through these transitions. thanks for your help.

Hi, I'm in a school Nursery - 26 children with 2 members of staff (I lost one at Christmas due to numbers) plus a student Wed to Fri. Having completed my planning this week, and having already broken my New Years Resolution "do not panic about work!", I'm left thinking "are we trying to do too much each week?". Currently, I plan for each area of learning each week - there are 3 small group activities (where we split into 3 groups) which 'covers' at least 3 of the areas of learning - often more. Then we have 2 days where we do an activity with half the class - usually phonics and music/story type activity which is manageable with half the class. Then, the other areas ar…

Hi everyone, not posted on here for a while and I am in desperate need of inspiration. I have found out today I am to be observed on Monday in maths (maths is my weakest subject area) I have planned a one off week on Chinese New Year. My children are fabulous at counting, adding, doubling etc using objects but they are still finding number recognition past 10 difficult which is now starting to hinder their progress in calculation past 10. I love the idea of using number through ordinal number of the chinese new year animal story (the race) to practice number recogntion but I am concerned that if i use this as a whole class activity starter (which I will be expec…
