Hi I was just wondering how you ensure parents are contributing effectiviely to their child's Learning Journeys and observations? I feel like all the things I have tried in the past haven't had the desired effect! It is a hard one, does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you Rachel6

Hello everyone, My topic is soon to be The Little Red Hen with Receptions and i'm just having a think of some ideas. So far I have bread making, kneading dough, a bakers shop in my role play area, split pin hens for cutting, covering the table with paper and havign puppets for the children to act the story out and draw a story map also i'm going to do talk for writing with them so that they learn the story with the actions and then change the ending and add different characters in. However outdoors and practical maths is where I am getting a mind blank. I am getting observed by an early years advisor at some point during the week so really want the children to lea…

People who help us - Fire fighters

Is it just me or does anyone else find this topic hard to plan for? The first two weeks of term i have set the 'person' for people who help us - we have covered refuse collectors and the post office so far. The children have now got to grips with the idea and have said they want to learn about the police force (which i have planned) and firefighter (which i have not). I have no idea where to start - i've trawled through this sight and the tes but am struggling big time. Is there anybody who has covered this topic that is willing to share their planning or give me any ideas on what a (quite boisterous) class would enjoy. Many thanks in advance - and i hope you'…

Hi All, Time for some help again! So I have a question that I don't know the answer to. I am a Scottish trained teaching abroad and we use EYFS in my school. Do you have to be a teacher to teach children in Reception? Conflicting stories this side of the world and since I have never acutally taught in England I can't say with any conviction what the right answer is. I know in Scotland our Local Authorities had different approaches depending on which one you were teaching in. One had a Peripatetic Teacher and CDOs, the other had a teacher in every room all day every day plus CDOs. Next question, I have to revaluate our entry assessments. Last ye…

I am covering PPA in reception ( I am a HLTA) and am doing PSE ( not by choice!). I am working of someone else's planning and am not being paid for planning and assessment ( which makes spending Saturday afternoon on it somewhat questionable!) The topic is Water and the PSE is linked to that - last week was ice safety, next is water safety and staying safe. The plan tells me what we are to tlak about linked to the theme as well as other bits like 'taking turns' etc. I am struggling wiht the fact that there are no reousrces eg stories or pictures etc and I feel strongly, working all week in EYFS, that it's essential to have a stimulus of some sort instead of just waffl…
