Hi all, I know this is very early, but my class assembly falls around mothers day. Has anyone got any good ideas or have an assembly they have done previously that I could use as a starting point? My class is Reception, and I have some really good readers and singers! Thanks in anticipation Anje x

Happy New Year Everyone. This week we are learning all about New Year and I've had a great idea that we can do the big ben chimes. Easy you may think, but like all good ideas they lead to another - and this one is giving me a headache so I hope someone can help. I remember a colleague once using a song/rhyme about a palace clock and at the end a child had to 'strike' the clock the correct number of times. Good for counting objects you cannot move. But here is my problem - I can't remember the rhyme. Can anyone out there help please? Thanking you all in advance. Mel

Next step.

Ok I need some help please. I have a lovely young boy in my Reception class who adores making his own home made Christmas crackers - simply out of paper. He gets together with a friend and pulls hard pretending it goes bang and falls on the floor giggling! Each cracker is carefully constructed to include the 'bang' strip. I feel that there must be a next step for him but where/ which way ? (being mindful that my Head won't appreciate me teaching bomb blasting techniques)!! Any thoughts please.

There are some areas of EYFS that I really struggle with planning for and 'talking about past and present events in their own lives and lives of their family' is one of them! What kind of activities have other people done to work towards this objective?

http://teacherknowsbest2012.wix.com/eyfs-2012-tracker# Hi, I have just obtained this AMAZING progression / assessment tracker for the new EYFS. It tracks 0-60 months which is perfect for my setting. It's really detailed and has saved me so much time (highlighting). Thought I would share it! Has anyone else got this?

UW 40-60

I am feeling really frustrated with the development matters statements in 'Understanding the World' 40-60 months as there is just one sentence under each of the three bands but each sentence is massive e.g ' Look closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change' and 'Enjoy joining in with family customs and routines'. When I am trying to best fit my Reception children against the 40-60 band I find it very hard to say, yep , Flossie is secure at this level because there is so much to each aspect e.g talking about patterns in the environment, on animals, on materials or looking at change- that's massive. I feel unable to show progress in this band as they are …

Hi, I am currently teaching a reception class. We are doing a themed week within the school on our local area. I'm trying to think of ideas for this which are suitable for reception age. I have a few such as drawing maps of our towns, using the B Bot to travel, creating our houses and labelling them. Just wondering if anyone had any other ideas.

Progress in reception

We have recently had visit from OFSTED. The majority of our pupils made expected progress last year ie from 40-60 months to 6+ points on profile with a significant proportion making 'more than expected' progress in Linking sounds and letters and Reading (having a large percentage entering at below expected 30-60 months). Our grading for progress was 'satisfactory' because 'expected progress' is not sufficient and there needs to be a significant % of children that make 'more than expected progress' to get a 'good'. My head is working on the assumption that the significant percentage is about 28%. I'm very concerned about how our children are going to make 'good progress' w…

Hi was wondering if someone could give me some pointers using data from ey target tracker? Seem to only be able to generate average percentage progress in aspects of learning. Cant find an overview of achievement ie percentage of chdn at each stage (30-50m etc). I know it doesn't show developing/emerging etc but can it do anything else? Help!
