Hi All I know many of us are on holiday and susposedly switching off from school/pre school but lets face it, that never happens! I have been mulling over in my head, how am I going to show and track progress from the start of reception year to the end? Currently my head asks for profile points each term so it is easy to show progress and also easy to track it in this way (for the purpose of giving it to the heads!). However, I have no idea how I am going to fulfil my head;s requirements termly, when I will be baselining them on Dev months and then not giving them a 'score' until the end of the year based on a best fit judgement, deciding whether they are emerging,…

I'm reluctant to start another thread about the dreaded 'next steps' or 'plods' or whatever we're supposed to call them! Anyway, here goes: I'm just wondering what other people 'do' with their 'next steps' generated from observations that refer more to adult support than to needing a different resources/change of provision etc so that ALL staff are aware of the need to support the child in this. Do you just communicate them informally to staff/write them on your plan/write them on a different format? I have an A4 sheet with children's 'learning targets' which are 3 longer term goals that staff have with them to remind them while they are interacting with the children s…

I'm not sure if this will make sense so please bear with me. There are lots of bits to it! Am I right in thinking that we should make provision for all areas of learning both inside and outside? If so, does anyone plan their activities/enhancements according to area of learning? At the moment mine is by classroom area (sand, water, mark making, reading corner, role play etc) but I'm struggling. I'm finding that I can plan lots of good activities (with legitimate objectives - not just nice activities but that I then will have a moment of realisation that they're all creative or understanding the world based. So, I'm thinking would it be more effective to …

Hi Can anyone please tell me what expected progress is with regard to children working through month bands. With the profile we used to say an average child will make 1 profile point progress per term in each area. What is expected progress with regards to development matters? Thanks Lou

My head and our advisor have suggested I start 'Have a go' books with my reception class. From their description these are blank books one for each child which they can take and use anywhere in the classroom for whatever mark making they do, noting anything down for problem solving etc. The idea is then that I take them in on a regular basis, look through and date them so that I have an ongoing record of their development in mark making etc. Does anyone else do this? If so, how did you introduce it and how do you maintain their interest/use of them? I'm worried that they won't really 'get' what they're for and also that they'll use them lots for a week or so then …

This may have already been spoken about but I was wondering what other people were using, computer wise, to track their children's progress in Reception? Thank you

Hi everyone - does anyone else do Walt wilf stickers for focus activities? If you do, do you do stickers for every activity or just focus teach. I'm asking as I'm starting to think I'm going to drown under all the stickers. for example we have planned a weighing experience outside to sort heavy and light presents for Santa. I would just prefer notes made by the member of staff and photos - sometimes staff spend more time ticking stickers than focussing on what the children are doing or saying. any thoughts?
