Baseline Assessments

Wondering how people on here are finding administering the new Baselines? I imagine most people on here are EE and just wondered how long it was taking to do, what the information collated looks like etc. My group of schools chose to go down the CEM route and would be interested to make comparisons between the two. Any thoughts welcomed!

'A Crocodile is Longer than Me'

Does anyone know the song 'A Crocodile is Longer than Me'? I am looking for the lyrics and hoping that it might have a 'familiar' tune! This is a suggested song on the planning sheet but I have not heard of it before. Alternatively, does anyone know of any songs, about length, that I could use as a 'starter' with my reception class?

Talk for writing

Does anyone have any good suggestions for a 'talk for writing' story? I have not yet had any training and will be doing this (as a lesson observation ) after half term! I have been thinking about 'We're going on a bear hunt' but have no experience of 'talk for writing' and wondered if anyone else has used this book and whether it would be suitable or if there are any better ideas! All suggestions appreciated

Areas of learning

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has a spreadsheet with the areas of learning on or point me in the direction, so that we can highlight areas we have covered/may need to be revisited (I know it's a long shot but preferably on one page!) Thanks

Hi Just wondered how people approach challenge within reception. The way I've always worked is believing that challenge comes from the next steps in children's learning. And as these are always being addressed and revised I thought this was enough challenge, I keep seeing pictures of classes with separate challenge areas or challenge cards, what do you think of these? Should I be going down this route or is planning next steps and working towards them enough? Any thoughts, advice or examples would really help thank you xx

Hi all, Hope you are all enjoying the holidays! I need your advice and just to see what other schools do too... I am starting a new job as EYFS leader in September and the school I'm moving to is in a bit of a pickle regarding planning etc as they've basically had TAs running their reception classes this year!! Anyway, I cannot find any medium term planning on their server only weekly planning and a topic overview. The school I was working at last year had medium term planning but I don't want to use this as it was very structured and didn't lend itself to children's next steps or focusing learning on their interests either! Anybody got any plans …

Hi Really interested in hearing people's experience of this, is it as fab as it sounds or is a just chaos! I really want to try the self service playdough that Alistair talks about on his ABC blog. I have got a dispenser and I know how to do it in theory but I'm struggling with how you organise it so I'm not wasting loads of flour and salt as I buy it myself. Any Advice on how to manage it would be great thanks xx
