I start maternity leave after the holidays and the lady who will be covering me is teaching my class on wednesday whilst I am on a course. She's also coming in over the course of the week to get to know the children. I've obviously planned the weeks learning but i'm wondering whether you think it would be a good idea to plan in some time for her to do something she wants with them that will help her to plan for the start of next term, such as some time for circle time and chance to do her own activity? Normally for supply I plan the whole day out meticulously but this is somewhat different! I really want her to feel confident with the children and how we plan in …

Hi, We've just completed all our initial assessments and had our parents evening but was wondering if others in school settings inform parents of the age and stage that their child is working within? We have always informed parents as to whether children are at, above or below the expected level but we don't actually show them anything that has the ages and stages written on apart from some obs in their learning journals. I realise that this is common practice in private settings but should we be doing this in school? I know that others have said that showing parents the ages has caused confusion as especially in Nursery they expect their children to be working within th…

We (new job-share partner and I) have begun to adopt a more child-led approach to our planning. Tick For our first topic 'All About Me', partner discussed the theme with the children and together they drew up a scattergram of the themes the children thought were important about them. Tick Now we want to involve parents with their child in planning for next half term so intend to send something home at half term inviting parents input. But I'm not sure exactly what to send. Do any of you kind and lovely forum members have examples of what you have sent home along this line that you would share? The topic theme is pretty much pre-set in quick hardening concr…

Ok so we are o our way with the new frame work with regard to observation and baseline done however I have been asked for a end of year prediction for each child??? How to do this? I was told by the school IP that for our area/school children in by the end of reception first half term should be b=secrue in 30-50 m and by spring term working with 40-60 m and then in summer term should be in ELGs and securing and moving onto NC by end of summer for some HA children. But the question is how do I track this to show they are making adequate amount of progress each half term?? and how do i predict the end results. All this info is needed for pupil progress any suggestions would…

Hi, can i ask how fellow YR teachers 'do' success criteria for adult led activities. At the moment we tak about the success criteria, which are always 'I can....', at the beginning of an activity and again at the end to discuss whether the chn think they have met them or not. I'm wondering whether others write them up somewhere to refer to during activities etc.... Don't know...it's just something that came up in a key stage (EYFS and 1) meeting this week. Also, thinking about that meeting, do any other classes go to the ICT suite in their school for a session each week, and if so, what do you do there that you don't/can't do in the classroom? Lucie
