Tracking progress

Hi all, For the past 5 weeks i have been gathering evidence to support the dev matters/ELG's such as sticky label observations, photographs, long observations. I am now unsure what to do with them! Last year I would link all evidence to the profile scale points. Are people linking evidence to the age bands now rather than the specific bullet points laid out in the 'unique child' column of the revised EYFS? Really cannot get my head around it!! Not sure how I can show progress. Help! Claire x

Hi - just a quick question for you all with regrads to Learning Journeys (or Evidence Files / Special Books etc etc etc). In light of the revised framework - are you continuing to use Learning Journeys in the same format as previously (ie containing photos/post it's/samples of work/observations/termly assessment records etc)? Just wanted to check . . . . .. . . .

Play based learning

Hi, I am an early years teacher and would like some feedback from other teachers to support a play based curriculum. I teach the British Curriculum and believe strongly in children learning through play. However, at the moment I am faced with the challenge of teaching a 'mirrored' curriculum with another class of the same age group. The other teacher is a believer in using worksheets in each session. So I am faced with the fact that the other class have worksheets piling up and my classroom is a lot more flexible, we learn a lot through play, although time is made for practicing letter and number formation as well. In saying that, I believe strongly in children being…

Hello, Have just moved into Reception from Y1, and have been preparing to send books home with children for next week. Had a really good look at the reading scheme books currently used in Reception and they are not good, do not correspond AT ALL with the new phonics programme we have recently started Read Write Inc... Does anyone know if there are any good reading schemes for Rec/early reading that correspond with Read Write Inc and/or at least Letters & Sounds? Any help/ideas much appreciated.

Hi! I have a number of children this year who have come in able to recognise numerals (some beyond 10!), shapes and many letter sounds (yes!...sounds!). Which places them 'officially' in the 40-60 bracket. However, I can't say that their understanding of numbers and shape and literacy skills are in the same league! Does anyone else find this. I'm assuming that we still apply the 'best fit' method as although those particular elements are at a higher age and stage, their over-all development is lower? (I'm in Nursery by-the-way!) Thanks, Green Hippo x

Hello, I realise this may be the wrong time of year to ask about this but could anyone share their ideas on how they approach transition between Reception and year one. We have lots of things in place but we are looking to move things forward again. Just hoping if anyone could share their ideas/experiences! Thanks a lot, PP x

Thoughts On Orbit?

Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to forum and I do tend to brouse rather than write a thread. However, I have to ask anyone in Foundation Stage if they've ever used Orbit? We have just registered and set up the practioners details but we're wondering about a few things: 1) It says parents can access their child's details by entering their date of birth? I guess they can only see their childs details and pictures etc? 2) If all they have to do is enter a date of birth then surely other parents that come into my class and see the birthday board could put another childs birthdate in? 3) Does anyone else use this forum and what do you think of it? I've read the 'Tapestry…
