Hi everyone, I am trying to use RWI for phonics. I have been asked to try this way by my SMT but am missing the Jolly Phonic songs and actions. I am trialling this with my youngest year 1's while my new reception class settles. Any wise words from someone would be welcome... Have had no training and no - we are not doing it across the whole school but I wanted to show willing to try something new.

Hello! I am new to the forum I am trying to amend our current timetable F2 timetable as I feel it has become too structured! There are 2 teachers, 2 TAs and 45 full time children. I would be hugely grateful if people in similar settings could share their timetables. I am getting a headache trying to make sure I cover everything while allowing plenty of proper child initiated time Thank you so much!

When To Start Guided Reading

I have timetabled slots throughout the week for Guided Reading. But was wondering when is it best to start this? I will be working in a very middle class village church school where there is a lot of pressure from parents, but I don't want to start something too early. My daughter started hers after xmas-but I thought for a child of her ability this was too late. The first 2 weeks are settling in, so I won't be doing any guided reading. In addition I will be changing home school books on a mon and a Fri. My aim if resources permit are to send home each child with a fiction and non fiction book. The previous teacher use to change them every day-but whilst w…

Morning everyone, It's Saturday morning and Yes...I am thinking about work (sad I know ! lol) I have recently moved into Year 1 from Reception and I'm finding the whole thing a bit daunting. I know exactly where the children are academically but want to make sure I am challenging them in their independent activities as well as their guided/adult led activities. Can anyone give me any ideas of how they challenge their children in the Continuous Provision and other independent activities? Do you have challenge questions up in each area? Hope someone can help. Thanks

Please help! Half of my year R class are very disruptive and destructive. I have tried positive praise, stickers, smiley face, 1:1 attention, small group circle times, whole class circle times but none of this works. The core problem seems to be that they fight a lot with each other and can be v.physical involving 2+ children at times and unlike previous classes they don't seem to care about their friends at all. 22 out of 30 came from the same preschool and I was informed fighting was an issue but it was put down to their age and being boys! I know it is still early days but I have never had a class like this. Any tips would be gratefully received! :1b

2012 On Entry Assessment Yr
by Guest- 1 reply

Hi, I was wondering how everyone seems to be collecting their evidence for On-Entry (Baseline) as I seem to have lots of evidence for most areas except Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Also, I'm not sure what information Wigan LA EYFS Team require for baseline (due in November). Do children need to be secure at 30-50 months if we are reporting them at that level or can they be working within 30-50 months? How much evidence is required for you to make your judgements? I'm finding it difficult to use some Nursery assessments as I've not been given too much information (understandably) but can not make a judgement based on U of the W and…
