Baseline Assessments In Reception - Help!
by Guest ShelleyT- 12 replies

Is it just me, or is anyone else confused about the on baseline assessments for Reception in September? At our EYFS briefing, we were advised to spend the first four weeks observing the children and making judgements for the three core areas from 22 months up to the 40 - 60+ statements. Does anyone else feel that this is completely unmanageable? I just don't know how we will get through all of that in 4 weeks for 30 children with just 2 adults? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Shelley x (I should really be doing something else on the first day of the summer holiday I know!!!!)

Could I ask what is classed as 'good' progress? Getting mixed messages - is it moving securely from one age and stage to the next within 3 terms or would they have to progress further than a whole age and stage? Thanks Green Hippo x

Learning Journeys

Hi-i'm new to Reception starting 2012 and was wondering what do people put in their learning journeys? The current reception teacher only does long observations of the children and puts work in separate folders. Here is what I am thinking of including: A page of information completed at home by parents called All About Me-to include children's interests, families, likes, dislikes etc. Then any short observations, photo evidence, lengthier observations and any indepedent work completed by the child. In other words a portfolio of what the child has done over the year. At the beginning of each term I want to include a summary of where the child is up to in rel…

Hi everyone Please can you help! I am sure I have recently seen some continuous provision documents for the revised framework on the forum but I am struggling to find them now. Please can anyone point me in the right direction. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone, wondering if anyone out there sends their learning journeys up to year 1 and 2 for teachers to continue collecting evidence. These will be used in Year 1 while the children continue to work towards the FSP, but the head has decided that he would like these to continue further up the school. The problem is, we tried this this year and the year 1 teachers have not really put much in to them as, understandably, they are not sure what to 'put in'. In September, the Nursery teacher is moving up to year 1 so she knows what is expected in the learning journeys and is going to continue these. However, it is the other staff that i am worried about! The head ha…

Moving From Reception To Year 1

Hi everyone, After 4 years of getting my head around Foundation stage, I am being let loose to Year 1 in September. We are a 2 form entry school and set from Year 1 upwards. There has been talk of having Continuous Provision in both classrooms rather than in a practical area with one classroom assistant to support the less able set. I was hoping someone in a similar situation could help me with some of the following questions: How is the classroom set out? What is the daily routine? How do you challenge the children in the CP? How in runs on a day to day basis? What does the dreaded Ofsted expect from Year 1? Thank you

Does anyone use the fingertips software for collecting evidence and compiling your learning journeys. Pro's and cons of it? we are looking into investing.

Has anyone made a new timetable for the new framework for September? I am struggling to complete one I am happy with. And are people having seperate times allocated for communication and language and literacy? Would be grateful if anyone could share any timetables for inspiration!
