Hi all, We are just sat mulling over our planning system and was just interested to know who is responsible for the planning in your setting? Is it the room leader, a group effort or is the planning put in place by management and then implemented by other staff. The reason we ask this is because currently it is a group effort within each room to ensure planning is in place and being implemented. The room leader has the final responsibility however we are aware that it's quite a big task to do alone and we feel that if everyone is involved they are more likely to be enthusiastic etc. Yet this does not seem the case at the moment..... We are seeing less and less exci…

We have just trialled Tapestry and like and are now going to trial 2 Simple. It is a difficult decision and I am not the most IT friendly person. Which do you prefer and why, what are there strengths and weaknesses? Thank you

Popping off to visit my new children in their settings next week. Just wondering if any of you have good ideas of things you take with you/give to the children/ show them while you are there?

Hi, I've been using OLP since September and we have found it to be very successful. When OFSTED came in this month, they asked us how we set targets for the children and we explained how the OLP works. I also have 1 other next step for each child which is focused on in their focus week and then their subsequent next step will feed into my medium term plan (which is basically objectives that we need to work on) Just thought that if you use OLP then you like to know that it seems to go down alright with OFSTED. We do 2 per week in Nursery and Reception do 1. Green Hippo xxx

Hi I'm in desperate need of some inspiration, having my first ever observation in fs2( 3rd yr teaching previously yr 1+2) I have lost all faith in what I'm doing and no idea if I'm doing anything right I am thinking about doing the snail and the whale next week and using the 40-60/ elg objectives about writing messages for a purpose. My early years leader likes all children to be writing, so far my thoughts are for my LSA to do some snail trail writing of the children's names with my bottom group using a gloopy glowing mix on mirrors. One group independently using the hospital role play working out how to get barnacles off the whale and writing this down for him (may…

How many of you Reception Class teachers have found a way to make using keyworkers work successfully in a Reception Class? Personally I haven't managed this yet but am ready to inspired by others!

Reading ELG

I have quite a few children who are confident with reading 2 syllable words and reading phase 4 words easily in text. They are very close to reading unfamiliar words using different strategies. I have a few other children who can read cvc words with ease and simple sentences. I have a slow reader who gets a bit distracted when she is reading. She sometimes stutters too. I have been told she does not fit the ELG in reading because she is too slow. Do you have any similar children in your class? I am thinking about putting in practise in twice daily to see if we can improve her reading confidence. she is quite able in the rest of the reading descriptor. thanks

Lesson observation for Reception teaching post

I have a lesson observation for a reception teaching post this week. I have to teach a 30+ minutes literacy session based on a book of my choice to the whole class to demonstrate my philosophy of teaching ! Although I have been teaching a number of years I taught in the same school for most of that time. I have never had to do anything like this before and frankly I am terrified!! and my mind is blank as to what to do.My confidence is extremely low as I have been for 2 interviews in the last month where I have got to the final 2 but haven't got the job so I just feel as if I'm not good enough! Any advice, support or ideas that anyone can offer would be VERY gratefully re…

Hi all, SLT have moderated our EYFSP data today and are nervous that there isn't enough evidence in the LJ's to support the writing and maths judgements. My argument of teachers professional knowledge didn't come into it, they want hard evidence. How much writing and maths evidence goes into your LJ's? (or separate books if you use them) For example do you have a piece of writing each week for each child? Thanks :-)
