Hi, this is my first post in this forum so hope it works! We are a 3 form entry infant school and have a shared outside area between the 3 Reception classes. We have trialled different set ups over the years but are struggling to find a way of using the area to it's potential and having free flow for so many children (90). We plan together but operate as 3 separate classes with different timetables for everything except the outside area. Does anyone else have a set up like this and if so how do you manage the outside area - staffing / resourcing / adult led verses CI??? Sorry for so many questions but we desperately need to sort this and need some inspiration and suc…

This is probably a stupid question with no set answer but I would still like some opinions please! We are due ofsted any day now and therefore I am questionning and doubting my every move!! We have a canopy covering our outdoor area which is set up and used regardless of the weather. Is this enough or should I be setting up appropriate activities that are not in the covered area for children to use? We do have all in one waterproof suits but the children find them really difficult to put on (reception) and we don't have the man power to have someone helping them with it all day long. I don't want to let myself down on something like this!

Lack Of Outdoor Area

Hi, I'm a FS coordinator in a private school and teach Reception. The head and I are currently racking our brains trying to figure out how we can provide the Reception children with free flow access to the outdoors when there is no direct access from the classroom! In order to use the outdoor area, the children either need to go down a set of steps and through fire doors, or along the corridor past the hall onto the top playground. We have explored the options of band systems and letting the children walk outside, but then the question about fire alarms was raised! If there are 5 bands missing, I presume 5 children are on top playground, but my class line up on…

Hello I am hoping someone out there might be feeling musical. I am planning a dance lesson for my reception class and would like to put their movements together at the end of the session to some music. They will be showing the life cycle of a frog through dance/movement. Any ideas please? Thanks

Showing Progress In Reception

Hey folks, New to Reception in September(next). How do you show progress within the EYFS year? Do you take the transition info. you receive from pre-schools and log the levels they assessed them at against development matters as your starting point? But they might have achieved something there but regress with you. Or do you assess yourself in first few week against the ELGs? Is it to your benefit to assess them as quite low in order to show progress and do you assess against every one of the 28 areas? Although i know it will be different with new EYFS. How on earth to you observe 28 children in all areas of the 6 DM areas in first few weeks? Going into a schoo…
