Superhero Writing Observation

Please help! My Headteacher is coming in to observe me do writing with my children on Thursday and I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do with them. We have been looking at superheroes in the past couple of weeks, and last week the children wrote about what their superhero name would be and their superpower. Our independent writing activities have included using notebooks to write down missions in the role play and searching and writing down clues to crack a code. I was wondering whether we could have a go at writing a comic strip - thinking about the beginning, middle and end of a story. But is this too adventurous when being observed? Does anyone have any oth…

Hi, can anyone tell me what is compulsary for end of year reports in reception class. I have read other articles on here and am aware most people write a short paragraph about the 6 areas of learning and an overall comment. I wanting to know if this is a must?as I cannot find any guidance on what is compulsary. Can we use tick boxes for some of the areas? Any advice welcome. Thanks in advance

Hi all, After Easter our KS1 class are covering the topic 'We're all going on a summer holiday'. Altough we don't stick to topics like them, I like to start off with something linked to their theme and see where it takes us. For the last couple of terms we have started off with a story and this has worked really well. I'm trying to think of some good stories or poem books linked to holidays or journeys but at the moment my mind is blank. Wondered if anyone has any ideas?

Hi Everyone, I am currently training to be a teacher on the GTP and my base class is year one. This term I am responsiable for teaching all of the science. The topic is pushes and pulls and so far the children have looked at movement. Then in the next lesson they looked more closely at pushes and pulls and sorted objects accordingly. So, so far the children should understand that things move in different ways and that pushing and pulling makes things move. Next week I would like to look at barriers and how they can stop moving objects (with of course lots of health and safety about way it is dangerous to try and stop some moving objects). I would like to set up some …

Hi everyone, We are currently doing the topic 'Blast off!' all about space. We have done a week about aliens, a week about Earth and this next week we are doing the solar system. Does anybody have any ideas that you could share with me about how to teach this topic to Reception children?? I want to look at the different planets and let them do some artwork. Next week we are doing the sun and moon and the week after the stars so this week is mainly focusing on the planets. Obviously I don't want to go too deep but I do want them to be gripped and engaged Sarah xx

Hi everyone, I am due to be observed on teaching reception about non-fiction. I'm just struggling on how to make it a wow lesson. I thought of introducing the differences between fiction and non-fiction then putting several books into sorting hoops. I thought then I might have laminated cards with certain words e.g. contents page, and once upon a time for the children to put with the correct hoop. I am very concerned at how much time they will spend on the carpet as thats what I am usually picked up on. Does that sound an ok intro? then for activities we have a nursery rhyme topic at the moment so i thought i could use incy wincy spider and introduce them to a spider non …

Hello, We have got an RE subject inspection on Thursday and have all been told we must plan in an RE session in to that day. I have done RE with my Reception class this year but not on a weekly basis we have linked it in with Harvest, Diwali, Christmas and will link to Easter etc... We have done a little on Lent over the past 2 weeks. I am now unsure as to what to do as an RE lesson especially as it is Science week too and the focus I have been given for science week is Trains! I did contemplate going on a magic train ride to the church, but could not think of anything creative for the children to do after that, it is a 30 minute session they are looking f…
