Each half term my long term plan consists of a specific topic then a 2-3 week block given over to a child-interest topic. This is to ensure that my Y1s get their essential coverage but that my YR ones get to experience a more EY friendly set up. I'm due to start my next child interest block next week and they're not interested in anything! My topic for the first half of term has been caves which everyone has really enjoyed and is still enjoying. They are particularly interested in bats but we've covered lots of things about bats in our science work. Our role play area is a VW camper van as several children were always playing 'going on holiday'. They still are…

Hi everyone. Just registered with the forum, it's a lifesaver isn't it. We are hoping to paint a road on our Tarmac in our outside area. Obviously we have no funds so need some cheap ideas. Anyone got any recommendations of what we can use to paint the track. Xx

The children in my class are absolutely loving 'The gruffalo' at the moment and we have set up our outside area as the woods, complete with cave, stream, logpile house etc... I have run out of inspiration for our indoor role play area though. I was thinking about a Gruffalo cafe, but we've had several cafes/restaurants already this year. Any ideas welcomed

Hi all I have some possible opportunities coming up regarding some brand new classrooms. It's started me thinking about what would I like/need in an ideal world. Thought I would open it up to the forum and see what you think works really well in your schools and what you would really like if you could have anything. I've been thinking about resources, staffing, areas/zones within the classroom, indoor/outdoor, planning just to name a few! I would be really interested to hear your ideas. Thanks Becs

Just wondering where you put your adults? I have 30 reception children and 2 members of staff, 1 teacher, 1 TA. Ive been told i have to have outdoors open all day every day. So other than 3 15 minutes full group times 1 of us is out and the other in. I really struggle to really get stuck in AI and CI activities as well as obs. I just feel like i am not doing justice to the children and we are spread to thinly. Just wondered if anyone else is in a similar situation and how they manage their day

Hi everyone, I need to explain to staff at my new school why I don't join in afternoon play. I am in a small school which has a 15min morning and afternoon play. I have been in schools that only had a morning play and one that had no set playtimes. The view being that PDR is free flow anyway, which I totally agree with. I feel I have to stop great CI play , tidy up ,review, all put on coats, and out we go. I do go along with the morning session as it is good for the children to meet and mix up with the others, being a small school and all.( Ok, and I do appreciate a comfort break) but it has been noted that I am not outside in the pm slot. I do have a mixed class so may…
