Hi all, I am new to Reception this year and we are planning a topic on Growth and Change next half term. I have some ideas but was wondering if anyone had any things that they have done that have worked well, especially for role play (it has been suggested that I improve this area) and outdoor provision (we are putting in vegetable beds hopefully!). Many thanks in advance h

Overseas Lesson Observation
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi I have recently been told i have a job interview for an overseas job for a year R class in an English school. For my lesson observation I have to do a 30 min lesson to a class of year R children. I have no other brief regarding subject or lesson matter - just lesson that plays to my strengths and that can be evidenced in the fact the children have learnt something. I am finding this so wide I do not have an idea where to start. I do not know what resources are available in terms of whiteboard/ability of children, if Ta is to be involved. I am more comfortable teaching literacy but whatever resources I take need to be able to fit in a suitcase along with my interview…

I am going to start work on 'The Gruffalo' with my class next week. I have found loads of fab ideas (many from searching this forum!) but i need an exciting way to start off. I was thinking about having a letter from a local resident saying a strange creature had been spotted in the woods nearby and could the children work out what it is.... By the end of the day we could have worked out from clues what it was (so they didn't go home and have nightmares!). Not quite sure how to go about it though and wondered if anyone else has any good ideas?

I would like to move the Fairy stories one to the summer term as I would like to use The Enormous Turnip to tie in with our summer term 'plants and animals' topic. However, my topic for the first part of next term is Castles. Is a castle a fantasy story setting or does it depend on what happens there? Would stories that include dragons be fantasy stories? Are fairy stories also fantasy stories? I.e. could I do Cinder or Sleeping Beauty for a fantasy story this term? If …

Hi, I teach reception and occassionally have work in books. quite a lot of stuff isn't paper based. However I have now been asked to write in the children's book: the date, walt , activity and how they achieved for everything, even when it isn't a paper based activity. Just wondering what others do to show they are doing play activities, and whether anyone else has to do this, Emily
