Hello, I really need some advice. I hope it is ok for me to post this as I am mentioning no names, I have a child in my class who has been very nervy and lacking in self confidence since starting in september. Over the term we have built their confidence and they now come to school every morning with a smile - however as soon as lunch time comes thats it; its gone, we have tears after tears after tears and they scream that they feel sick. I have spoken to them and comforted them and they say they dont like the noise in the hall so we agreed with their guardian 6 weeks ago to let them eat dinner in the classroom with an adult so there was no noise - however they a…

Hi, We have a 6 x 4 wooden playhouse with veranda in our outdoor area and are unsure of the best way to resource it. We have in the past spent time transforming it into different role-play areas (usually with the help of the children) e.g. space-ship, cave, underwater world, superhero base-station, post-office etc, only to find that the children have pulled everything down the next day and using it as whatever role-play they are interested in on that particular day. We continually set rules and have even resorted to closing it when the children have not looked after it. However, should we actually leave it more open-ended and allow children to use it in the way that they…

Horrible Outdoor Area

Evening, I have recently moved schools and have inherited a small and dire outside space. It is under resourced, very small and very unispiring! I have tried my best to make it look lovely, spending my own money and using every spare minute I have but it is still lacking! The children either don't want to play outside or spend the time racing around as there is nothing to do. I have tried engaging them in games, building with the wooden blocks, hide and seek but I'm struggling! I have been to visit local schools that have amazing outside spaces but we simply do not have the funds for the lovely ideas Ive seen! Does anyone have any cheap on a budget ideas to wow u…

Ideas For A Lesson On Shapes
by Guest- 7 replies

Hi everyone, I have an observed lesson coming up - the focus is maths and I'm thinking of doing shape (probably 3D, but not decided yet!) Does anyone have any fun ideas for shape activities? Ideas so far - going on a shape hunt around the classroom, feely bag game, junk modelling, investigating whether different shapes roll or not, shapes hidden in the sandpit, boxes of different building blocks - all ok but not very inspiring. All ideas welcome! thank you
