Hi all Does anyone know of any basic but exciting interactive games for teaching o'clock to reception? I've had a good look around but they all seem to involve digital times or half past the hour etc? Thank you all! Jayne

Hi all, I am in the process of altering our timetable at school and need some advice on what others think/do. Up till now we have had separate break times to the rest of the school and haven't been attending assembly, but as the year goes on we start to fit in with the rest of the school a bit more. I have come up with a timetable but am now worried its too adult led. It is as follows: 8.45 - Wake and Shake, Register 9.00 - Assembly 9.15 - Child initiated learning 10.10 - PSRN carpet time 10.20 - Snack time 10.30 - Break time 10.45- Phonics 11.10 - Group time (small group work e.g. PSRN game, Art activity..) 11.30 - Literacy activities (I listen to readers, …

I have a couple of reception girls who came to me from the same nursery with feedback that they were both 'brilliant at maths', really good number knowledge, instinctive application of their knowledge etc. I am struggling to see evidence of this for one of them in particular and am looking for fresh ideas to try and get her to demonstrate her abilities. She is something of a dreamer so this may be part of it - I simply need to give her more time to respond to things but she does also seem hesitant over number recognition of larger numbers, how to find totals etc. She loves making things - especially drawing, cutting and sticking and spends ages in the making …

Holi Assembly
by Guest- 2 replies

Our current topic is Colour and Pattern and we have our Class assembly in 3 weeks. As one of the other Reception classes is doing a general Class Assembly about Colour, I thought I'd do my assembly about Chinese New Year and the Holi festival. We will be doing lots of Holi activities on Monday - rangoli patterns and hand designs, painting on black and white photos of ourselves, patterns using sand and general colour patterns but I need some help with some songs to sing or rhymes to say during the assembly. Can anyone help?

we had the call today and they are coming on Thurs and Fri doing wonderful winter as our topic!!! any good ideas am thinking along the lines of... freezing ice tomorrow and using to explore melting, freeze diff colour ice cubes and put them in a dish and observe what happens as they melt and the colours mix. send TA and groups to the Arctic! put on our NEW outdoor suits and wellies. We have one of those igloo tents thought we could set it up on the grass and.......get there- maybe draw maps of things they pass, act out walking through the snow/a blizzard? ANY OTHER IDEAS MUCH APPRECIATED. BRAIN DEAD NOW, oh but we do have a PE slot as well to fill.

Hi, It has been puzzling me for a long time. Does anyone know the reasons why Ofsted notify schools and childminders of their impending visits but nurseries and Pre-schools are not. Surely it should be a fair system for all. Thanks Scottiedog
