Dear All, Can anyone help me with some ideas to develop positive respectful play. I have just returned to my reception class, after missing the first half term as I was unable to work due to having a fractured wrist. My class were taken by three seperate teachers throughout the 7 weeks so they have had no consisitency, which has led to no boundaries or rules been set. The majority of my class are great but I have about 6 or 7 children who are very bositerious, curious and are finding respecting toys and property hard. They damage toys in their play, or school property. I have spent the last week finding out what interests them, and clicked on cars, so spent the…

Was on a course on Friday where they advised that all settings should have a key person display because of the emphasise on safeguarding. The children in our Nursery are split into 3 key groups which is indicated on their coat labels by a picture. Currently the key person is responsible for long obs and keeping up to date with the learning journals for their key children as well as occassionally doing a key group activity. Does anyone else have a key person display and what goes on your display? Also as a Nursery class within a school, as the teacher, I have to take responsibility for assessment, parents evenings and reports as TAs are not paid for this (although I do mak…

Hi am struggling to find a new and interesting ways to introduce HFW into my action packed days. Started off putting words on the wall for children to read. I have put words into sentences for handwriting sessions. I have laminated word charts children use to support writing tasks. I have also sent words home in a tin for children to learn, wondering if anyone has some shinning examples that children enjoy. This is a mixture of rec/yr1 ideas. word_bank.doc

Hi everyone Was just thinking aboout the large proportion of children in the cohort who still can't write their name and starting to panic! We have only just started to teah phase 2 of letters and sounds and so the letter formation has not reallly kicked in yet. I was really hoping that you clever people might have some good, fun, inspirational but effective ways of teaching and helping children to write thier names. I am really looking forward to hearing what other people have done. Thanks XXXX

Im part of a 2 year intake in a Primary school and were told the other week we have to start Guided reading every week with all children even though i stated i didnt feel the majority were ready for this. So i could really do with some ideas that you do for guided reading this early on??? Also, with you more able children (in my case the ones who know some key words and are starting to blend) do you have them reading the text individually at their own pace during guided or each reading a line? Im new back into Reception after a long break hence my lack of ideas
