Hi everyone, Please can you tell me how you manage to fit in teaching phonics and CLL? Are you doing shared reading and writing at the moment? I'm teaching Letters and sounds phase 2 at the mo and then wondering how long to spend and what are the right sort of activties in Cll for Reception children. Sorry if these are ridiculous questions. Thanks in advance Jules

I'm desperately seeking interesting ideas for an infant assembly (reception - year2) next week on the topic of children in need. Don't want to simply bore them to death speaking for 15 mins! any ideas gratefully received! All I have so far is a pudsey bear to show them!

Hi everyone, I'm planning a phonics workshop for parents. I'm going to have phonics everywhere, in all areas of provision to show the parents some of the different ways children practise and consolidate their phonics. I'm also going to do a typical phonics session for parents to watch the children being involved in. I'm going to have the phonics pronunciation video playing on the IWB... I just wondered if there are any particularly great things you've done for thisor would suggest? Any really exciting phonics activities / provision enhancements that would be good to use? I know you're all so fantastic - I didn't want to embark on this without running it past you first!…

F/1 Mixed Year Group
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi In January 10 of my Foundation children will move up to a Year One class. This year I really want to make sure that the provision offered caters for the mixed year group. The Year One children are generally less mature/able and therefore a good match to the Foundation aged children. The Year One teachers are concerned that SATs results will drop in Year 2 next year, if the Yr1's receive a Foundation based curriculum this year. My questions are... 1. What do we think that the provision in a quality F/1 class should look like? 2. Is there any written guidance on mixed F/1 classes and how they are set up? I would love to he…

Assembly Help - Having A Panic!
by Guest- 3 replies

Yesterday I was told my year one class have to do an assembly a week on Tuesday. I have to write this assembly over the weekend so we can practise it next week. My children are mostly poor readers and have poor retention so it must be really simple with repetitive elements or familiar. I was going to tell the story of Oliver's Vegetables as we have done this in class and it has the repetivtive parts which will make it easy for them to learn. I've never written an assembly before though so I'm struggling to come up with interesting things they could do. I'm hoping to have them all say at least something but I want ideas for stuff they could do (I'll have a few actu…

Hi, first time I've ever posted on here, so hope someone can help. I haven't been teaching in reception for that long, not quite a year, so any advice would be a help. Have a new class as of September which is much larger than my class last year and has quite a few boys. I have two boys, who to different degrees, have difficulties coming into class in the morning. This is something I've not faced before, my class last year were through the door and more often than not forgot to say goodbye to parents, and this is the same for the majority of this years intake, bar two. One little boy refuses to come through the door and stands the other end of the playground. Mum …

Problem Solving In Nursery
by Guest- 1 reply

Hi, We are developing a "Problem Solving Area" in nursery to engage children in thinking for themselves and trying out different ways to solve problems. I was wondering if anyone out there has done something similar, or has any good ideas or knows any good resources. We are learning as we go along. Problem solving is part of our FS culture but we haven't approached it so systematically before. Thanks! Ruth x
