Playing In The Rain 1 2
by Guest- 31 replies

The weather last week, as we all know, was abysmal - and the prospect for the coming week is pretty much the same. Does anyone have any suggestions for activities in the rain? WE have no covered area (just a concrete playground) so we've just had hoops, bikes, weaving in the fence with plastic strips and painting on the wet ground. I'd appreciate any other ideas.

Has anyone got any brilliant ideas for a school tip for Reception children linked to a topic on transport? We really wanted to go to the airport but they don't do trips for children under 6 Very disappointed by this as I was really excited about it, and now can't think of anywhere as good!! Any inspiration?

Risk Assessment For Climbing Frame
by Guest- 0 replies

Hi, We have had a slide and climbing frame for about a year now and had untill recently been adhering to a generic risk assessment for playgrounds. The other day one of my children fell off the slide. Fortunately he was unhurt thanks to a spectacular roll and the special floor surface. It happened after he was pushed while his legs were hanging over the side- we had talked about how we go down the slide safely but children will!!! This is not mentioned in the risk assessment and I was wondering if anyone had a better one that I could look at which was aimed for FS equipment? Thanks Rachael

Hi Next week i am being observed by the HT and she wants to see the children involved in a self initiated writing session. I was thinking of starting with a story to inspire and excite them and then provide a range of equipment for writing, such as, whiteboards, felt tips, coloured paper, clipboards, crayons etc as well as threading and tweezer games, and something fun in the tuff spot with the magnetic letters (maybe a treasure hunt for letters and they need to write down the letters they find) Do you think this would be acceptable or is it a little too directed? Many thanks!!

Today I had a new child. He has S&L difficulties but to be honest, he understands enough to know what is right and wrong, and what 'no' means! I think he is very selective. In the space of 20 minutes, he ran away from me twice and refused to come back, thinking it was highly amusing. Tried to pull the fire extinguisher off the wall, and when told to stop, smirked at me and carried on. I had to physically stop him and then he pushed me! Would not sit where i asked him to and kept telling me it was his go to use the IWB. I feel completely de-skilled by a 4 year old! How can that be? He just looks at me and laughs without any repest for authority and parents say…
