Hi everyone, I am currently teaching a Yr/1 class. I have 5 Year 1 children and 20 Year R children. Two of my Year 1 children are SEN. I used to do a literacy and numeracy session each morning but felt it was really rushed and I only got chance to see maybe one focus group each session. I then changed it to doing either a whole literacy morning or a whole numeracy morning which I felt was great because I was able to do a focus session with every child but I then worried because I wasn't covering enough content for my Year 1's. Please could someone let me know what they do and how it works for them because I am sooo confused as to which is the best way to do it.

Hi all I just wondered how people are organising their learning stories. I've just started doing them for the first time this year and have been putting in sticky labels of observations and photos in, in chronological order. Someone suggested putting them in areas of learning because it makes it easier to show evidence of specific subject areas when moderated on a particular area. But as lots of my observations are provide evidence for more than one area of learning when referenced to profile I would it difficult to know where to put them. I have also been writing up next steps against some of obs in the learning stories. Following up the next steps either in plan…

Hello, As some of you may or may not know I have just recently started my NQT year in a Foundation Stage Unit which I am loving. During this particular observation I will have 7 reception children and 4 (who have a good consentration length) pre schoolers. At the moment we are learning to count and I will have assessed the children to see what they can count to at this point. So I do not want a number activity. I was thinking of a shape activity. This will be the carpet activity: I will tell them what they will be learning about today - WALT (I usually have a puppet for this) Feely bag with several shapes inside and each child has a turn at placing t…

Implementing Eyfs In Special Schools
by Guest- 1 reply

I have just taken on a new post implementing EYFS in a special school with children with a wide range of learning difficulties. I am beginning to realise that, whilst wishing to uplhold the principles of the foundation stage some aspects will be impossible to introduce. For example, child initiated learning ( most have 1:1 assistance) and free flow activities. Has anyone, or is anyone doing the same job as me? Any advice welcomed!!! Nobody seems to have any answers on how to do this effectively!

I have 29 children in my reception class with me and a full time TA. Quite a few of the children are not used to socialising with other children. 3 children have huge tantrums; loud screaming, kicking & slapping me, throwing chairs and toys. Space is also an issue as is the pressure of having 2 govenor's children, 1 child of a teacher in the school and a child with reduced mobility. The KS1 teachers are 'commenting' on the noise level. Last week I tried increasing the adult led activities and splitting into 2 groups with 1 group/1 adult inside/outside it helped with the noise and less disputes between children but wasn't workable in the end because one of us has to…
