Hi everyone, my topic for the next 2 weeks is based on ourselves and i'm desperate for some ideas. I have come up with lots of ideas for adult directed and adult initiated independent activities but i am struggling to think of ideas to extend the topic in the different areas of the classroom during choosing times. Our role play area is a home corner which the children are enjoying but i'm finding it difficult to think of areas like writing, exploration and creative. I would love to hear from anyone with suggestions!

I am 2 weeks in at my new job (Reception Teacher in Found Unit) and loving it. We are due to be inspected in next few months and have had a pre inspecpection visit from our authority. Part of the feedback was for the Foundation Stage to have more of a presence for want of a better word within 'school'. I was thinking about suggesting a whole school staff meeting (which frankly scares me but hey!) based in our unit to 'bridge the gap' and promote better communication etc. Anyone got any advice or views on this? Also what on earth could the said meeting actually be about - I want other staff to have a better idea about what goes on in Foundation as im sure many think we …

Hi, I am returning to Reception after some time in Year 1. I have heard of Number Zoo as a way of introducing the number system. I have looked it up on amazon but it seems to be out of print. I don’t suppose anyone had ever heard of it and could enlighten me of the characters? Many thanks x

I have created an area to work in with a large display board which will be for them. Hi! I'm new to the forum and also to EYFS! I qualified (primary PGCE) just before Christmas and got my first supply job in March and after 3 days was offered a terms contract to cover long term sick - which has now been extended til Aug 2010 in the Nursery! I have only worked in KS1 & 2 and I'm struggling to come up with ideas for PE (and most other things) in the Nursery for my rising 3's and 4's. We also provide the flexible delivery. I have one TA and we have upto 25 x 3-4s any morning. PM's I could be on my own with upto 13. I'm struggling to arrange my timetable/planning to ensure that all children get everything, but that they don't get the same th…

I was playing with our Brio builder set today with a boy in my class and we were following the plan on one of the cards and realised we didn't have enough of the red nails. Does anyone know if it is possible to get replacement sets without having to buy all the wooden bits again?

Hi all, Some of you may remember that I posted expalining that I am a Year 5 teacher moving, (now moved) to reception. I have completed my first two days and I love it. But.... today we have had the big O call - a subject insp[ection for English. Guess who is subject leader??!! Yup, me. So I was happy getting my head around Foundation stage and all the gubbins that go with it, but now I am stressed. Has anyone had a subject inspection? What happens?????? Thanks in advance for any lovely advice and knowledge Sarah (off to open a very LARGE bottle of wine and try to drown in it!)
