Hi all, New to this site and even newer to the forum. Not even sure if this is where i should post but i'll give it a go and see what happens. I moved to Ireland 4 years ago and am starting work in a special needs school. I will be working with children of various ages and of various disabilites, many of whom are working at a "pre-skills" level. Basically i need to be aiming my planning at Reception and/or KS1 level. I have been out of the English Education system a while and things are still quite backward here!! My new school has had to re-write some of it's own curriculum. Don't know where to start!!!! I have downloaded the EYFS and have been on di…

by Guest- 2 replies

We are going to use the SEAL materials in Foundation stage (Not in the rest of the school). Has anyone ever used these and, if so, do you have any Early Years assembly ideas. Our assembly is mainly singing, so we only need a short input and some song ideas. Thanks for thinking.

Hi, At present I am teaching just nursery but from September I will have a mixed nursery and reception class (all be it only 4 reception children). Has anyone got a timetable or planning for this? I would be so grateful for any ideas or copies. i'm trying to get my head round how it could work. Any ideas would be great. If you have no mixed planning or timetable I would be interested to see a copy of either age group timetable and planning so I could try to marry them together. Many thanks to you all. You are always so supportive. Sue x

Transition To Year 1
by Guest- 2 replies

I know there's been lots of threads about transition but after talking to our new NQT who will be in year 1 next year. She asked how I thought the children would cope being in one class when they've been able to drift between two rooms this year. Any ideas? Has anyone experienced this themselves? My colleague thinks they'll be fine but I'm not so sure and was thinking that maybe when they first come in each morning they could choose which room to play in as they would in year R but I'm not sure. All thoughts would be great!

Toilet Issues
by Guest heleng- 13 replies

I work in Reception and we share a class space with Nursery too. Basically between Nursery and Reception we have several children with toileting issues. For example, we have one who just goes wherever he feels like it, one that holds it and holds it so much that she 'leaks' all day, one who if you don't tell him every ten minutes to go just wets himself again and again and then several who also poo themselves as again they just don't bother to go to the toilet. We have talked with each of them to find out if they are scared of anything- they all say no, we have put up posters and colourful pictures the children have made, we remind them to go at the start of …

Hello everybody, I am teaching a Reception Class at the moment, which I have been teaching in a play based approach. As I am going to take them up to Year 1 next year, I would like to continue teaching them in the same way. I am therefore looking for great ideas and would appreciate, if you could give me some guidance on how you structure your school day in Year 1 and how you teach the different subjects in particular Literacy and Numeracy. I am also interested in how you have made the transition between Foundation Stage and Year 2 and the use of adults in your classroom setting. At the moment in Reception we teach two adult directed tasks and have two adult facilitat…
