HI I wonder if anyone has experience of interviewing for early years posts. I am looking for a good question linked to outdoor learning in the Foundation Stage and am looking for inspiration for a challenging question. Any ideas appreciated - looking for something along lines of benefits of learning outside but also want to incorporate learning in different weather conditions !! Thanks

Learning Walls

I know this might sound a stupid question but what exactly is a 'learning wall'? I keep seeing them mentioned but can't quite work out what they are. If I've got the right idea they sound like a good tool but a clear description would help me gather my ideas. Ta xx

Planners

I work in a Primary school where I teach a Reception class. Like most schools, our planning has been produced on the computer. Now my head has bought planners for next years planning and planning will once again be hand written. I can understand why she wants to change. She only wants us to plan 2 days ahead and wants APP to inform planning. My dilemma is that planners were bought for early years and the format does not even reflect our curriculum. I don't mind planning in a diary format but need headings which include continuious provision and the 6 areas of learning. Does anyone know if EYFS planners exist?

Reception Dropping Off Time

Hi, was talking to some of the other staff in school today about what happens in the mornings in my class - the parents stay for a bit and do a writing task with their children before the child goes off to choose what they will do and the parent then leaves. It means that parents are in my room until 9.10 each day. One of the other teachers made a comment today that at her daughters new school (where she will be reception in sept) the teacher said parents should just leave the children at the door from day one which she felt was the best thing to do - I felt like I was being told in a round about way that I am storing up problems for Year one by encouraging my parents to …

Every Cloud...

Well after a year of moving furniture around I finally had my class the way I wanted it - went into work last Monday for a full inset day on my own (it was supposed to be for reports but I'd done them), had a great time sorting out "The cupboard" and was feeling all pleased with myself. Then the flood came over the weekend . We've only managed to save a few old tables with metal legs, all the decent furniture is ruined - carpet on a skip - you name it. BUT!!! Have spent today with a big catalogue replacing old bookcases with lovely new craft centres, etc. If you could start again - is there one piece of furniture you would put first on your list? We can't just do s…

Hi everyone Was just wondering what records people are keeping for reading? We have recently had HMI in and he was extremely interested in what records were kept for reading and phonics and how progress is tracked. I have group record sheets for a focus guided reading session, inividual reading logs, tricky word and high freq word list, and phonic checklists. Does anyone do anything different? Look forward to hearing what you are all up to XXX

Okay, so I was introduced to the very cute Beat Babies today that help with phonics, rhyming, counting etc. I really like the idea and for; • Rap Pack 1 • Rap Pack 2 • Traditional Tales Compilation CD 1 • Traditional Tales Compilation CD 2 • Helping Young Children with Steady Beat • It’s the Beat Babies: Wiggle, Jiggle, Count! • Listening Games CD • A Beat Baby it costs £92. I will be buying them out of my own money because I only have a job for a term and can not expect the school to buy them. I will be in a nursery/reception class and I just want to know if it is worth it. Do any of you use the BEat Babies? Do you find it helps with children's phon…

Junk Modelling - 'craft Workshop'
by Guest- 9 replies
- 3.1k views
I am moving into F2 next term after 3 years in nursery and have become a bit of a covert to junk modelling, as I feel it encompasses so many areas of the EYFS all in one go. The children love it and are making some fantastic headway at the moment with their speaking and listening, creativity and fine motor skills etc through their plans and models. However, my new colleague feels it will make too much mess and be too noisy to have all of the time as a child initiated activity and should be only once in a while. I wonder what anyone else feels about it? Do you have a craft workshop that allows for this all of the time? What do you have in it?

Outdoor Chalk Board
by Guest- 29 replies

I've got a large chalk board in my classroom which the children love, but I am thinking of asking the caretaker to screw it to the wall outside. Has anyone done this? I'm however thinking it will probably go rotten? Has anyone got any ideas for stopping this happen? or do you think I'm best putting it outside until it does rot and then placing it each year with a new piece of wood and painting it with chalkboard paint? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
