Interactive White Board
by Guest- 0 replies

I was informed yesterday that we may be having an interactive white board next term, but it may not fit on the wall. I'm sure a little while ago there was a discussion on here and different sizes of boards were mentioned. I've done a search but cannot find it. Of course it may not have happened!! Hope someone can point me in the right direction, Many thanks, Jackie.

Suitable Child Id

Help ! I've got a trip looming and the present ID we use for the children are frankly pants ! We have clip on plastic things like those you get when you attend a conference - but they drop off, we now put them in the children's pockets but then they are not visible quickly. As I do not have time to get anything more suitable, as an addition to the 'in pocket' thing, do you think i could use a rubber stamp with the nurseries details on and print it on the children's wrists like when you go to night clubs etc ? (with parental permission) Also, what do you use for identification that the children don't mind wearing, are comfortable and safe. Where do you get th…

Taking The Register
by Guest- 12 replies

Hi all I'm new to this forum and would just like to ask how you do the register? At present my Reception children self-register by taking their name from the door and pegging onto a washing line when they arrive at school. They then go outside until the bell rings for the start of school and then come in and I take the register formally! I've just realised what a waste of time this is and really the children only need to self-register and I can input the data on the computer. However, I do quite like doing the register. We have learnt how to answer in sign language and we sing our "Good Mornings". In the afternoon session we do it in different languages.…

Creative Learning Journey

Hi - I'm new to the forum so hello! I teach in an Oxfordshire primary school and look after the foundation stage class there (reception with some of the youngest Year 1s when numbers dictate!). Next year my school is going to use the Creative Learning Journey (CLJ) in order to plan a more creative curriculum. I love this idea as it takes the EYFS areas of learning and builds a skills continuum from FS to Year 6. The CLJ was originally designed and trialled in Bexley and is now available to purchase as a package with online planning and support (check it out on www.creativelearningjourney.org.uk). So we can finally throw out all those really boring QCA units further up t…

Hi there was wondering if anyone can help me! We have ofsted next week and I really dont know what to do I am a NQT in Reception and have been really struggling in terms of how to organise my day and how many AI tasks to have etc. I'm just looking for some advice. I normally have CI time from 930 - 1030 then have an adult focus task which runs from 11 - 1200 My TA either takes a group or observes the rest of the children. (during the AL time the rest of the children have CI) Then in the afternoon I have a adult led session in a small group and just run the session until all the children have done the task! We have a phonics session in there somewhere aswell. Our…

Unsafe Behaviour
by Guest- 22 replies

I have a reception class and am an NQT. I have been banging on about 2 children's behaviour since I started at my school in January. Mostly the 2 girls run off when an adult asks them to line up or come inside. Now as we near the end of reception my partner teacher is suddenly interferring and saying these 2 can't behave like that in year one. I have been asking both her, the FS leader and inclusion manager about it for ages and no one has bothered before. I have spoken to the parents and they are very surprised. Today, the pther teacher had them both sitting facing the wall for 15 minutes and said they must go in detention for unsafe behaviour. Basically they had run off…

Pirate Mini Topic
by Guest- 16 replies

Going with following children's ideas - lots of interest in map making, so have decided to do a mini pirate topic. Have found a number of resources on here -THANKS - but wonder if anyone has any more ideas - especially sand/water/malleable. I have hunting for treasure in the sand - letters covered by Phase 2 (so not many), finding rhyming objects and sorting them, finding objects/sorting and counting them/matching to number cards. Boats in the water tray, using recycled materials to make own boats - which float/don't, adding treasure to boats to see how many jewels before they sink (link to One Eyed Jake), using sponge scrubbers to make boats, finding and making …

Induction - Parent Presentation
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi, I'm in the process of planning the parent presentation for induction morning next Wednesday and was just hoping for some advice/guidance. I have already meet most parents during their child's induction morning visit and seem to be able to talk easily with most parents and answer questions/concerns etc but am not sure how to tackle the presentation. I meet with the KS1/FS coordinator to outline roughly the areas I would cover but just unsure how to prepare for it - I'm an NQT. I will be talking about our daily routine & structure in class, briefly about the EYFS and how we present the curriculum, things childrne will need in class, how I want to assess…

Does anybody out there know the EYFS document like the back of their hand (hmmmm, almost) and know off the top of their head of any quote in there or on any of the cards that says that home visits are good practice? or anything by OFSTED? We've got our new parents' evening tomorrow evening and I know one parent in particular thinks they're a ridiculous idea - obviously I'm not going to force anyone to have a home visit, but I want to make sure everyone knows the rationale behind them. I've got my own things to say, but it'd be great to back myself up with something more 'official'! Thanks
