My class are, for a number of reasons, at a point at the moment where they are really over-excited, silly, lacking focus, have started hurting one another, not looking after things, boisterous boys bursting into tears at the drop of a hat.... you get the picture. Fortunately, I am at a point where the contributing factors to this have come to an end and next week I will be working my socks off to get them back to where we were. My feeling is that they need to slow down and take some time out to calm down so they can remember what our rules, expectations, boundaries etc are. I've done a couple of good claming things with them this week which have been successful, like pret…

When To Read When Not To Read

Hi I have just found out that we in the nursery give children a reading book from the scheme when they recognise about 7 keywords and have started to blend to read. But if the children go to reception without reading books they wait until the child can read 43 keywords before they are given a book. Some now have 5 points in LSL and Reading and are not on a book. I know there is no difinative answer but wondered when do others start children on reading books? Thanks for advice and help...

Hi there, I have not contributed for such along time to this forum!!! I'm quite nervous actually!!! I have been given the task of supporting the YR1 team to help with transition. They are going to use our Foundation method of teaching and going to go total freeflow!!Yippeee!! Im trying to convince them of the benefits of continuous provision and CI ativites indoors and out as well as all the other fantastic things that go on in F1 and F2 We use the 80:20 ratio in FS and I was just wondering if anyone could help with information about YR1 children- I appreciate that a lot of the children will still be working within the EYFS requirements- but what about…

Total Free Flow

Hi there I was wondering if someone would explain how their free flow works. If the children have complete free flow inside and out all day, how do you organise job times and ensure learning intentions are met to meet CLL, PSRN ....? I really feel the way my school works at the moment is too formal. We have a set phonic job time each day - which is essential. We also have a focus CLL and PSRN time- TA and CT work with a group each for these times. The other children undertake independent jobs whilist adults are working with groups. In the afternoon, we run a highscope model of PDR. We then have one more job before going home. Would love to know how other…

Just wondered if anyone else is taking part in the Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week - 29th June to 3rd July? and if so what you're doing. We're spending next week preparing for it - making up our own Olympic Oath (!), a sports pledge and practising the games for the sports day event, to name just a few things. I'm getting a bit side tracked on focusing on our Country - we all had to choose a a country to represent and we/I chose Australia as we have a little girl who's just had three weeks hols there. I'm quite into their culture, flag, animals etc, but am worried it's a bit off the beaten track as we've been asked to research their sporting strengths etc. …

Don't really want to do a Sparklebox actvity. We are looking at Superheroes at the moment so something that would tie in with that would be great! Any ideas???? Vicki

Reception Class Assembly

I'm hoping you brilliant guys will give me some inspiration as always!!!!! I am getting myself in a right old panic as I have my first class assembly(I'm an NQT) in 2 weeks with 26 reception children and not sure what to do. Our topic is mini beasts and I just cant decide how to put something together which involves the whole class. I have about 5 special needs children who will find the whole thing quite an ordeal too. My Ta is great so I asked her for a few ideas and she went away and has written a whole script which I really don't think the children will cope with but I don't want to upset her. We also have a school trip and summer fete which will take time out from pr…
