Planning Boards

I am starting a Rec/Y1 job in September and need to sort out the classroom. I was wondering what other people do about children's planning and how many go into each area. I have seen 'planning boards' used in other schools, where children have to put their name up by the area they want to play in and each area has a set number of children. I used to do a similar thing when I taught Reception before. However, I am not sure about doing this now with EYFS, as I am concerned that this inhibits truly child initiated play and limits children's spontaneity. But if you don't do this then you can end up with 10 children in the home corner etc. What do other people thin about…

Help For New Teacher In F2
by Guest- 4 replies

I wonder of anyone can help me with some simple questions to start with (- they may get more difficult later!) I'm moving into F2 for the first time in Sept. We are on a split site - a 40 place nursery and right across the playground two F2 classes initially with 16 each plus a shared TA for 3 children with special needs (2 physical and a child with developmental delay/?autism who are all in my class) We are having a new covered outdoor area but this can't be accessed from my room only from the other much smaller room. Do your F2 children have trays to put their work and special things in or do you have a 'going home box' like we have in Nursery? (I'm not sure whi…

With it leading up to Fathers' day we're talking about our families - we're doing a 'Thank you for caring for me' card - have got lots of different kinds of families in my class. This year I have a little girl whose dad died at the beginning of this school year so i want to be especially sensitive about this subject - wondered if anyone had any good book recommendations about families all being so different etc? I'm sure I've read / got some but my brain is completely FRAZZLED! So any help would be great! Or other ideas for dicussing this topic in the most sensitive possible way. (Obviously have done so before with mums and dads separated etc but felt I needed something e…

Hi I hope I've put this in the right place. I work in a school and we are currently trying to set up an outdoor area that facilitates children's learning in all areas. We have some money but this will all be used for a fence, an artist is working with the children to design the fence. I wanted to ask if there are any practitioners out there working in LEA schools who have been able to access funding for the outdoor area. If so, please could you be so kind as to provide details of the funding provider. I've researched but unfortunately have not been able to find anything. Thanks sienna
