Hi, We have had the dreaded call and they are coming on Wednesday and Thursday next week As part of my KUW focus I planned to examine a real egg, both inside and out, and I wondered about the health and safety aspects of children handling raw eggs- does anyone know if there is guidance on this or should I just stay clear and go with something safer?! Thank you K

Letters And Sounds
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi Just wondered how everyone else is getting on with letters and sounds. I now have some children on phase 5 and some who are not blending yet, phase 2. I am on my own and really have three ability groups, all who are supposed to have 20 minutes a day input on their phase! Don't managed this! I have tried all sorts of things and have managed up till now, but I could really do with some fresh ideas. Some children seem to have got stuck on phase 3 and I would love some fresh ideas to make the sessions a little more fun. We do the usual magnetic letters, whiteboards, fans, bingo, pairs. plus the games in the document but it seems to have gone a little flat. Any s…

Writing Tables
by Guest- 15 replies

Hi I am new to this forum although I have looked at other people's questions and answers. In our foundation stage area we have to have a writing table with a focus, I am struggling for new ideas, does anyone else have any ideas how to brighten up a writing table. Have to say though that my children prefer using clip boards, large rolls of paper, white boards etc, but literacy co-ordinator and HT insistent on having a writing table with a focus. Many thanks Kate :

Liquids

Hello. Strange question I know but does anyone know of a liquid I can mix with oil and water. We have shown the children that oil and water can't mix and have them in a bottle which the children can shake to mix and then watch them seperate. We were wondering if there was a third liquid we could add to show different levels of density. Would adding alot of salt to the water change the density. I'm assuming it would but will it then mix with the water thats already in there. This disscussion has come out of some marbling we were doing today which the children loved. Thanks for yor help. Jodes

Tracking Development 0 - 5+

Hi, I would just like to herar your opinions on any simple yet effective ways of traching children's progress through Development Matters in EYFS. It states in the guidance that it should not be use as a tick type list, just guidance. Also that tchildren do not need to progress through all the statements ( that make good sense!) I work in A Childrens Centre, therefore we need to track through from 0 - 48 months plus. We look at the statements in detail every 7 -9 weeks or so. I thought that if we had a key type system for example: - a smile - if we have looked and found that progress is generlly ok. A simple OB.- if we have observed this deve…
