Guide Dogs/hearing Dogs

Does anyone know if it is possible to arrange a visit from a guide dog/hearing dog into school? I am covering the senses at the moment and thought it would be a great way of demonstrating their effectiveness to the children. I am on my 8 week PGCE placement in a reception class, so not sure what the procedures would be.

The info was for parents and children as well as teacher and there was some really useful things in there i wanted to use. Sorry to be so vague but if this rings a bell with anyone or they have something similar I would be eternally grateful. In hope Jo x

Hi Just wondered if any of you have any fab ideas for encouraging your class to include the keywords we have learnt in Letters and Sounds in their own writing. They can obviously write the ones that they can sound out its the tricky words we are having trouble with - they write these as they sound too. I dont mind this but wonder whether I should be encouraging them to recall the tricky words when they write. Anyone got any ideas or pointers to help me?

I have got a child in my class this year who is reading and writing easily within level 1. She can also do basic addition and subtraction. She has been reading since she was 3, writing soon after and came to school using the formal + and - signs. A few years a go when her sister (who's now in year 4) came through our school, reception was more structured, with mainly teacher directed activities. Her mum feels that the school has let this younger sister down because it isn't structured enough. As some of you may know, my colleague and I spent a long time in the summer setting up the year R unit into learning areas for CI learning. The mum seems to think she is bored b…

Hi all I am looking for a book about outdoor learning, something that I can dip in and out of for ideas. Simple, quick, inspirational ideas that need few resources. I have come accross a few books that look good, has anyone used these? If you have used a good book that I have not listed please let me know. Playing and learning outdoor (Jan White) Natures playground (Fiona Danks and Jo Schofield) Nurture through Nature (Mindstretchers) I teach F1 children in a school. Thanks

Problem Solving

Time for my first question! I'm just wondering how other people plan opportunities for children to 'use developing mathematical ideas and methods to solve practical problems.' Our topic next term is transport. I'm a bit stuck for ideas. Most of my children are fairly confident with numbers and I'd like them to move on more to using this knowledge to solve problems. I've thought of things like working out how many passengers there are on the bus, if there are any spare seats, how many more passengers we can fit on, perhaps counting in 2s if the passengers are sitting in pairs.. Does this sound about right? Any suggestions would be greatly received, even if it's not…

Can anyone give me some suggestions to support what the moderators call 'evidence of parent and child voice'? I am expecting this to relate to parents evenings, open days, volunteers in the classroom, speaking and listening and travelling ted but what else should we be doing? Ideas please?

Hi everyone, I am looking to improve my construction area, and just wondered what everyone has in this area, apart from the actual construction materials. In our other areas of learning we have lots of 'supporting' resources on the walls around and hanging from the ceiling, such as alphabet lines, interactive number displays, real art work etc But the construction looks very bare! I am going to put up pictures of buildings etc and add some drawing/writing materials. Anyone got any other bright ideas? Thanks xx

Hi there, I've got a Literacy lesson observation next Monday and will be using the book Titch/You'll soon grow into them Titch as the basis of our writing during the week (our topic is Growth). I wondered if anyone had any good literacy based activities I could do use. I would normally base it on writing captions or sequencing but would love to hear some ideas so I can make my lesson even better. Also does anyone know of any interactive resources on this? www.titch.net no longer exists Thank you in advanced Jo
