Hi i am hoping someone can offer some help and advice. I teach a mixed Reception/Y1 class. Next year my head wants me to have 17 Y1 and 17 Reception which will give me 34 children in total!!! I know this is over the magic 30, but my head doesnt seem to care. I was wondering if anyone else has taught a large mixed aged class and lived to tell the tale!!! Any advice or support would be gratefully recieved

Write Dance

Hi all, I am wanting to do a staff meeting and a talk for parents about 'write dance', which my Lower Foundation children love. Just wondered if anyone had any advice about what to include and how to make it understandable by all? I will definately get everyone having a go, but some of the explainations in the book are rather complicated to transfer to others.!! Help please!!! Thanks

Next Steps In Learning Journeys

Does everyone always put the "next steps" alongside observations or photographs in the Learning Journeys? After some parents telling me they are "helping " their children to achieve the next steps I am seriously considering leaving them out and just putting what they have been observed achieving. I know parents are asked to contribute towards their learning, and most write things in them, tell me things that can be included, or bring it photos or items they have written or drawn at home. Just wondering if it would be acceptable to leave out the next steps or change it to say something different. jackie.

I haven't been on here for ages! How have I coped? I've just found out I have 25 pages of new topics to read through befor bedtime! Anyway, that's not what I wanted to post about! I'm quite keen on having a class pet- rabbit/guinea pig. Before I discuss it with my head teacher etc I was wondering if anyone out there currently had a class pet or had had one previous. Any pros/cons or words of wisdom? Thanks. xx

Can anyone think of any challenges I can set the children so that they can use a sand timer to time themselves. So far I've got- How many beads can you thread in 1 miniue? How many pasta shells can you place in the bowl (using tweezers- an idea I borrowed somewhere here!) How many beanbags can you collect (outdoor activity- race) Any more ideas?!
