Outside Area Advice Needed!

Hello! I hope this post is in vaguely the right place...sorry if not, first time! I am an NQT who has just joined the forum. I am in a 3 form entry school and started teaching reception in January. Our setting is very much in keeping with the new EYFS and we have free flow inside/outside between the three classes. Our outside space is large and well equipped. Sometimes we have up to 40/50 children outside. Most of the children will be involved in child-initiated activities but I am struggling with the children who just want to run around and don't seem to be doing anything purposeful - I will always encourage them to the areas and more constructive activity, …

Summer Topics

Hi, I have spent this year so far covering topics the children were interested in, so not necessarily doing a topic per half term as I had done previously. Some topics have been linked to conditions at the time (snow, Christmas, etc), and some have been linked to interests shown up during CI play. Anyway, I have been looking through their profiles, and which areas will need a bit more focus. I want to do something animal related during the summer term and also need to do something that has an emphasis on past and present. In previous years, I have found that 'toys' works well for past and present, but I wondered if any of you have any other inspiring suggestions …

Can't Believe What Has Happened.

This is my second year in a small rural school nursery/reception class. I took the job on the condition that it was part time but full time in the summer term but on a variable contract. It was also implied that I may be needed to work full term if the numbers were high in either the autumn or spring term. Last year that is what happened. This year I was told by our head who is leaving that this is what would be happening but 1 week before the end of term I have been told by mangement that this is not the case and I won't be full time, as you can imagine I am devastated, it is point 4 wages over 5 months. There is absolutately nothing I can do because I didn't read …

Unbelievable Ofsted Key Issue

We have just been inspected and one of the FS team was observing a group of children and writing down the learning/interactions etc. Now have a key issue of "staff need to use questioning more to develop child initiated learning". Tried my utmost to explain that actually it is crucially to not intervene and question all the time and that actually taking a total back seat is a very effective and essential way of looking at learning and planning future steps etc etc blah blah blah but to no avail. Am furious!!! Feel so upset when have spent so much time developing this practice and so passionately believe in it. There are loads of things we are working on to develop and …
