Want to do something different for interview, so thought could do either Rumble in the Jungle or Walking through the jungle. Anyone done something like this as a session in their class, where I could use some ideas for an interview? Not really sure what to do? Any ideas appreciated! (For a Reception class) Thanks Amelie

Hi, I'm an NQT who commenced a PPA position in Jan. Once a week I have a morning in reception and despite trying various different strategies I don't seem to be very good at managing the group work activities. Unfortunately my PGCE focused on KS1/2 so I've got very little experience of this stage to help me. I have 26 ch which are split into 5 groups based upon ability. After I've done my input on the carpet, I send them off to do their respective jobs/free play and they have about 30 mins before I have to get them to tidy up. However, during the 30 mins, the ch are either messing around, not focused on their work or are very loud! I seem to go from solving o…

Story Books Written In Italian
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi there, I'm looking for stories written in Italian! The school I am in at the moment is due to have a languages week in a couple of weeks and I would like to do something that they haven't seen before! One book I am keen to find is from the Geronimo Stilton series - his website is in Italian but the books on Amazon are in English! Does anyone know where I can find some? (Apologies if this doesn't make sense the brain is re-adjusting into English after reading through my Italian language books!)

I have used behaviour modification systems / sticker charts / reward charts etc really successfully in the past. Last year my job share partner didn't believe in them so we didn't use any and I've got out of practice with them. I have a little boy in my class who responds well at home to a sticker chart and so we are usibg a similar thing at school to help him. He is quite motivated by achieving a star next to his name on the white board each time he achieves his behaviour target, but I wanted to give him more incentive by giving him a bigger reward after he collects 10 stars, for instance. Further up the school, the rewards might be extra time on the computer, playi…

Foundation Stage "lesson"
by Guest- 5 replies

Hiya, I have an interview coming up for a new job, and all the interviewees have been given the first question to prepare for as an "ice-breaker". The question is... What makes a good Foundation Stage lesson? My gut feeling is to start by asking if I could rephrase the question to clarify whether they mean a full "morning/afternoon session" or "focus activity" as I don't see a day in a foundation stage class as being a series of "lessons". Do you think I'm being too pinicky? Tracy

Stories With A Maths Theme?
by Guest- 16 replies

Hi all, My mind has gone totally blank!!! We are having a whole school Maths day next week and am trying to think of a story that I could get lots of Maths activities out of. I have unfortunately already looked at the usual suspects during our traditional tales topics so am looking for a completely different story with lots of opportunities for Maths. I am in Nursery and my children seem to respond so much better to activities when they have been introduced through a story hence why I am asking. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Child Initiated Activity And Targets
by Guest- 27 replies

Hi, I'm new to the forum and prior to a head teachers observation I thought I was beginning to understand the basics of the EYFS. How do you answer the allegation that child initiated activities do not challenge the children sufficiently and how can I show their targets are being addressed. I am a Reception teacher with a full time teaching assistant. One of us generally takes a focus group whilst the other observes or interacts with play activities. Some practical ideas would be really helpful. The school is expecting an Ofsted very soon and I am trying to stay calm.

Joined Handwriting

Hi, Was just wondering what other peoples views were on joined writing in foundation. Our school scheme says that children are taught to join as soon as they enter school. We have no nursery and children start school the term after their 4th birthday. The problem is that I find children come in with incorrect letter formations. I spend time getting the children to form letters the correct way (following the school scheme - hand for spelling) but I don't see the point in teaching children to join when they are unable to form single letters correctly. Surely it makes more sense to get the children forming letters correctly first then they can learn to join. I am feeling mor…
