Has anyone done this and if so, what did you think? Is it loads of extra work for no real gain? My head wants us to do it.......thinks the badge on the website would look good!

Hi all, Ive just spent two days of my half term hols making a spaceship roleplay area in my classroom. Im struggling to think of some activities for them to access in there. So far I've got lots of writing templates, and themed numberlines etc but im struggling to think of some activities that will keep them focussed in there. Any ideas? Zoe x

I've just started working in a new school where we have a very large space for outdoor learning, surrounded by trees and shrubs, with the rest being all grass. Apparently it gets extremely waterlogged in wet weather, so deep in parts that it comes over the top of little wellies. We have a tiny paved area for wheeled toys/bikes etc but it is really too small to offer any challenge. I've been mulling over the possibilities for development, but in reality there isn't the cash to install a large soft pour area (or anything similar) anywhere on the field, and won't be for at least another year. Some of the staff (we are two YR classes) have been on Forest School training, and …

Our LEA is shockingly poor at offering services linked to Ed psychs, councillors etc. I need to access some sort of emotional support for a child in my class. I've been told he's not 'bad enough' to access any support through the LEA which is incredibly sad as apparently regular behaviour such as: pushing another child to the ground and stamping on him isn't 'bad enough' to get help. Are there charities Or national places I can go to for support? Or any other suggestions?! Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

Rec/Year one mix

Hi All, I have a mixed half and half Reception /year one class this year. i know it's only been a couple of weeks but my colleague and I, (with parrallel class) are finding it really hard. we are really conscious of the pressure to do 'proper work' and teaching all day with the year ones. Consequently I have hardly done any baseline obs. on my new Reception children who currently do half days. I am not enjoying it. Feel I can't spend anytime supporting the Receptions in the provision and 'provoking' them. Not enjoying it. I love the creativity and freedom of Early Years and the 'let's see what happens' researching aspect. feel our year one curriculum is all planned…

Hi everyone, I joined this site over ten years ago but haven't used it for 7 yrs! Guess what?? I'm back in Reception and I have to say I feel like an NQT again! I've been teaching for 18 yrs but this current class is proving to be a real challenge - it's their tidying up skills!!! Oh my gosh!!! They are non- existent! I've tired modelling: showing them exactly what to do, tidy up music, stopping their play and reminding them! I've tried humour, being cross etc etc! I know it's early days but they don't seem to be responding at all!!! Please help! If I can crack this one thing, or at least make some head way, I'll feel slightly less stressed!!!! Thanks guys!!! Zx

Hi I am due to apply for UPS 3 this year. I have my performance management review next week. We have been told that our last 2 years performance management reviews will be looked at to decide if we get pay rise. However i was on maternity leave sept 11 - sept 12 so my head says that i may not be entitled to apply to UPS 3 until next year/ Is this right - i understand his point as i did not have performance management for that year but part of my also feels its discrimination for having a baby. Does anyone know where i stand with this?

Performance Related Pay

I was asked today by my leadership team how they could look at my Early Years team's performance in relation to their pay. They want something measurable (data driven I believe), such as Key Stage 1 and beyond have to show a progression of 3 sub-levels for their children. I tried to explain that tracking children's progress in EYFS is quite different, but as usual I was met with blank faces as if they'd zoned out when I mentioned words such as '36 months' and 'emerging' 'expected' etc! I would really appreciated anyone who has any ideas how their school deal with this. Thank you.
