Summer Birthdays In Reception
by Guest- 19 replies

We've had a few problems this year with parents wanting their summer birthday children starting full time before our publicised date. They started staying for lunch this week and then will be starting full time in December. I was just wondering what other schools are doing as we are thinking about what we want to do next year.

Transition Booklets

I'm wondering if anyone can help. I want to make a booklet for a child who's had settling issues all the time he's been with us - almost 2 years now. He's moving to another area. I have some images of the new setting & want to include some from ours. There will be one copy kept here & he will take one with him. Unfortunately the only format I can find refers to preschool>school transitions and it's not quite what I'm looking for. I wondered if anyone has already done this kind of thing & has an example they are willing to share?

Hi this is my first request - I am still fairly new to the Forum! I have just become Supervisor in my setting and would love to encourage more children to go to the "Drawing Table". We always have pencils/crayons available. We use stencils, felt tips, chalks & chalk boards, tracing paper, different coloured paper, printed sheets (I know a big no no, but some children really love them, and we dont use them every day). We have clipboards, post its, still life items - flowers, fruit, toys connected with our planning - so quite a wide variety. However the children just dont seem to be inspired by our table - any ideas are welcomed. Many thanks.

Ict Scheme Of Work For Foundation
by Guest- 1 reply

I have recently stepped into the role of ICT coordinator and have discovered that there is no scheme of work for Foundation ICT. As I also teach in Foundation, we always integrate ICT into everyday pratice through child-intiated and adult-led activities. However, our setting has a teacher employed solely to teach ICT. Whilst she endeavours to extend the practice that takes place in the classroom, she is struggling a little for ideas. She takes groups of children twice a week into our mini-ICT suite for focussed ICT activities. I would be interested to know how other practitioners deliver ICT in Foundation and whether anyone knows of any free schemes of work? Our …

Anti-bullying Week - Elmer
by Guest- 2 replies

This year's theme is apparently 'being different' (or something like that!), so I thought I would start off with Elmer. I have found activities on here and through Google, such as making own Elmers using 'fill' tool of Paint, and obviously painting/collage Elmers. I then wanted to link it back to the children, to get them to think about how they are different to each other (and that that is a good thing) - apart from circle time, I'm a bit stuck for ideas! Can anyone help?! Thanks in advance, purplemagic x

Need a bit of advise please everyone. Ive got a parent in my class who comes to me each morning and asks me what his son will be "learning today". I feel like he issuggesting that all the children do all day is play and is not happy with what his son is doing. The other week i answered with "today we are learning all about diwali, we will be making rangoli patterns, etc, etc (smiling all the while.) He nodded at me and smiled but then the next day as he asked me what we would be doing today he said "when will be teaching him things like writing numbers and reading books?" I did my whole talk on how the children were already learning lots of these skills through the activi…
