Hi again everyone, Please can you help? I've returned to FS after a gap of 7 yrs!! Eeeeek - Im really confused about the whole Learning journey/ Work to show to parents thing! I've picked up where the previous teacher left off, she did the follwing: One A4 size book (we call then topic books) with children's work in ( Things like pictures or paintings -annonated with notes about which bit of DEV Mat it covers, also had in photos etc. She also had a seperate file with all the post-its and stickers in, along with any planned observations in there! That also contained a tracker for the Dev Mat. What do you all do? I just dont know why it's all seperate, surely…

Just a quick question. If you are a teacher in Reception, are you required to cover Infant play duty even if the Reception children are not allowed to go out to play?

Hi, hope you are all enjoying the holiday :1b We have always referred to child initiated learning times as 'choosing', and this has always worked for us, but part of me thinks it would be nice to somehow incorporate 'learning' into our name for it. So, how do you all refer to it? :1b

Hi, I'm looking for some new and exciting story books to read to the children and to use as a basis for learning in other areas of the EYFS curriculum . Has anyone found anything exciting recently? I seem to read the same old ones.

Getting rid of TA's 1 2

Hi all, Just read this (an article about our beloved Mr Gove's latest potential money saving trick - getting rid of teaching assistants!) and wondered if anyone had any thoughts about how different their classroom practices might be if this were to happen? I particularly like (dislike really of course but it did put an exasperated smile on my face for a few seconds!) this bit... "Think-tank Reform found that schools could improve value for money by cutting the number of teaching assistants and increasing class sizes." Would love to hear your thoughts on this and will include them in the letter I plan to write to various people including Mr Gove himself. S.

I would really appreciate some advice and tips on how to stop this behaviour before it escalates! I have a child in my class who is always pushing the boundaries. All the children answer the register with X and ad he answers with Y. I have to ask him once or twice before he does the right thing. Also would like tips on how to keep him busy during child initiated time as unless he is with an adult he can struggle to focus on an activity without getting very silly/loud etc. Please give me some tips to sort this quickly. His family is suffering an impending bereavement so can't use any strategies that involve them. Thanks so much.

Hello We have a jolly phonics set for sale. It has the books 1-7 and blending cards, tricky word cards, alternative blending, letter sound flash cards, tiricky word wall flower. Some is in great condition and some has a couple of rips that we have repaired but most has never been used as we are a nursery and use letters and sounds. Thanks Aly
