Keyperson
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi I am still getting to grips with the EYFS and feel that I am doing really well but both my headteacher, LSA and I are all at a standstill with this keyperson requirement. How has everyone else approached this, we are planning on splitting the class between myself and lsa - is this the right thing to do? How have people approached this with the parents - explaining the reasoning behind it but also explaining that as the class teacher all chidlren are my responsibility - I am totally confused!!!! Liz

Eyfs And Outdoor Play 1 2

Morning everyone! I know the EYFS says the curriculum should be delivered through purposeful play both indoors and outdoors but does it give any indication about how much time the children should be outside for? I suspect that there is a lot of variation in the time that e.g. children in Reception classes in different schools, get for outdoor play. I know some classes will be restricted because they won't have access directly to an outdoor space but in other cases it will be limited by other factors e.g. money available for resources or not enough staff to cover. I just wondered if somebody could point me in the right direction for finding out exactly what the EYFS say…

Ok - I've now read the guidance issued Oct 08 here Look down the list of docs until you see foundatin stage. They give you specific point by point guidance on how they will approach the welfare requirements through a school inspection so it is really worth checking if you are due one. There is new guidance on expected attainment on entry linked to EYFS and how they judge progress (against EYFSP 78points/ 6+ and PSED/CLLD combined 6+ scores) there are clear descriptors as to what the gradings(outstanding to unsatisfactory) for each of the 6 areas they will grade EYFS in schools on. Also guidance on what inadequate practice looks like. The six judgement…

Cursive Fonts On The Computer

I am interested to find out people's opinions on cursive fonts. We have introduced cursive in our school and therefore when I am teaching the letters in Reception I am modelling cursive letter formation. However children get to see the text font when we read words on the IWB and on software programmes etc. When I write I model cursive writing at all times. Not many sofware programmes include cursive font, even for letter formation. What do you think about blending and segmenting activities - is it OK for the text font to be displayed ? I think that it is as obviously children do not often read cursive. If children are segmenting to spell then it could be useful for t…

I have tried the spell checker and online dictionary but it seems you can do both. Which would you put for 'adult focussed activities?

Tyres And Crates

We have recently acquired some 'junk' including old tyres, chunks of wood, planks of wood, gutters and crates etc for our outdoor area. At first I was delighted thinking creatively of what we could do. But now, following a conversation with other reception teachers, am unsure as to whether such things are allowed for safety reasons! Do any of you use these sort of materials to support role play etc or should I get rid!! I have also been asked to do a risk assessment of outdoor play area anyone got a pro forma/sample I could use. Thanks

Child Initiated/adult Directed
by Guest- 5 replies

Think I am going slowly mad! Basically to cut a long story short, I am leading training for all my school staff (including teachers and TAs from Key stage 2!!) on the new EYFS. Partly because I am fed up with subject coordinators coming in and asking why they aren't all sitting down and why they don't have excerise books, and partly because I feel they should know what an important job we do in reception. Anyway, want to do a bit on child initiated/adult directed activities. But can I find where it is in the EYFS documentation. Any ideas? I am going slighly mad! Searching the Cd but can't seem to find much! Am I imagining it?
