Using Photos And Making Observations

Help - been back at school for 3 days and my brain is already feeling frazzled! Have been talking to my team about how we address the issue of using photos of the children in our learning diaries - we have always used them but have been thinking about child protection issues and the fact some parents might feel a bit iffy about this. Does anyone have a standard letter they send out that I could look at or know where I can find one on the site? Thanks ems x

I'm going to be a bit philosophical here. What comes first - the adult initiated activity or the child's interest in something? Where does I do not know what I do not know come into it all I worry very much about activity lead learning or the pre planned topic. I also worry when practitioners sit and scratch their heads about what on earth they will do with a particular theme. I worry when I see postings asking for help with a topic - "What can I do?" Noone ever seems to start with "this is the learning I feel my children are about to develop, how can I facilitate it?" I truly believe that if you don't know what skills, knowledge or understanding your children ar…

HI everyone, i feel really bad asking for help again but..., ive been given the topic of 'structures' and we've chosen three little pigs as a strating point for this. Im strugling for physical development ideas that link around either this book or theme. Ive thought of doing a large scale building site outside with materials and hard hats etc, as well as small scale model making, using large bricks to make structures inside, and in PE acting out the story using large and smale movements etc. But i need to do planning for 6weeks that relates in a crosscurricular way, and im really struggling now.....any ideas??? Thanks Lucie xxxx

Mixed Foundation/year One Class

Hi I'm looking for a bit of advice. At the moment I have 22 children in my class which is fine. We hve two days of PSRN and two days literacy based. We have a 15 minute carpet session followed by group activites. During this time one group works with an adult on a focussed activity and one group works on a sustained activity (usually a play based activity but the children have to stay on it for 15 minutes). The other two groups choose off the board. Each of these groups have four play activites to choose from each. Over the course of the two days the groups get rotated so that all children have equal access. Then later in the morning we have 20 minute phonic session. …

Afterschool Club

Hi Just wondered how other people are getting on with the challenge of reception children in afterschool clubs. My understanding is that EYFS requires that children in such provision have written observations when engaged in child initiated play. Just in the same way as they would during the day in reception. How do people arrange activities for the whole age range, because we could have children from years 2-6 How structured does the session look? Obviusly the children have finished school for the day and want to relax. but I don't think parents want their children to be sat in front of television either. Comments please would be gratefully accepted.

Here's the link to a new publication, again download only. They think we've got limitless ink and paper! Also, the final bit, a parent questionnaire, appears to be missing but its still worth a look.

It appears you can't order a hard copy of this newly published document but it's probably worth downloading. http://publications.teachernet.gov.uk/defa...00767-2008&
