Just wondering if everyone has got their books to give out to reception children yet? I got my teachers pack (big book, teaching ideas, stickers, bookmarks etc) a couple of weeks ago. But no books for the children as yet. I'm hoping to have a week on dinosaurs next week for our 'Creative arts' week at school and was hoping they'd be here by now!

We are in our first year of using the letters and sounds. We have done satp inmdgo. We have practised orl blending and segmentation. Thhis week we have been tryinf (and i stress TRYING!!) to blend the words it, is, in, at. I only have 2 out of a class of 15 who seem to have any idea. We've played lots of the games from L&S to practise oral blending such as Goergies gym etc... and i have done that much sound speak (c-a-t) that i'm now talking it in my sleep! They just dont seem to be geting it i'm getting random comments such as c-a-t garage!! or word association p-i-n sewing! needle! thread! cotton! Hi everyone I have spent the last few weeks giving our outdoor play area a revamp! Its great in fine weather but am aware that they need to have the option of going outdoors whatever the weather. Has anyone got any ideas for outdoor activities as it starts to get colder, and wetter, and windy! Would welcome some help on this as its all a bit new to me!! Thanks Jo xx

hi there, Just discovered I am getting a Polish child in my reception class. met her today. She is really sweet, seems sensible and happy. She speaks no english (she only arrived from Poland 2 days ago) Mum and dad speak nil english either. I had to use a dictionary to try to explain things and my acting is not that great! God knows how she will complete the entry form. I couldn't explain that she had to write her name etc. I think the husbands employer will help with that. i don't have a problem teaching the child (I am happy that she will learn english quickly, I have taught children with EAL (no english) before) I am just concerned as she wil…

Hello everone, I hope you are all having a good term so far! I wondered if you could please help me! I have knots in my stomach everyday, I'm finding it really hard to control my Reception children this term. They are wild! I'm worried that they are bored. I wanted to know what sort of independent activities you set up in the morning pleaseDo you leave these out all day? I'm finding time a real issue, do you spend hours setting up independent activities? Do you have a bank of ideas where you go to for ideas? Would you say the Featherstone Little Books are good resources for independent activities? I have got loads! How do you extend their play in the home corner?…

Dictionaries For Little People
by Guest- 4 replies

In Early Years I have always had Oxford Reading Tree Very First Dictionaries available in my book corner. Unfortunately my new school does not have them nor currently an alternative. I have tried to order some but have been told that they are out of print. Does anyone have any idea where I can get hold of some, or an alternative? They are lovely because each page contains 6 pictures and corresponding captions rather than being word heavy. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
