Looking for some advice and inspiration. Over the summer we have had a large 3m square outdoor sandpit installed. I haven't ever had the luxury of such a fantastic resource. I want to set up some resources that the children can access to use in the sandpit and I was wondering what other people have found their children particularly enjoy. Also any great ideas for challenges or activities would be great. Think the brain has slowed over the summer! Thanks!

Hi, I work in a C of E school, called St Peters and this year I want to teach the children, who is St Peter ,and why he holds the keys etc. I haven't done this before and have been looking on the web but found very little. So to any St Peters schools out there what do you do to tell the children about their school name? I would look to do a display in the entrance hall. Thanks

Following on from Alistair Clegg's training I am planning to create an interests board for Reception. I have bought a large piece of hard board as I want it to be portable and the idea is to blu tac things the children bring in/draw etc on to it and each morning have a discussion around the interests board which will begin to inform planning etc. The thing I am struggling with is what to call it as I want to put a title on top of the board but want to word it in a child friendly kind of way - didn't just want to call it 'Interests'. Any suggestions? I am struggling to get the creative brain working!

Hi , am just wondering how much child initiated play you allow your Year 1 children , particularly children in mixed eyfs/ yr 1 classes. Somebody has mentioned to me today that they should have 25% but I have not heard this before! Would really love to hear all your views please.

Hi everyone, I have been discussing a child who will come to reception in September with the pre school. This child has special needs and the nursery senco has been trying to get a statutory assessment, this is still in process and I will be picking this up as the school senco in September. I attended a review meeting a couple of weeks ago and the health visitor said that over the summer they are going to work on him not being in pull ups. When he came for visits I changed him as necessary- only wet. Key worker said that mum has told her that if he has nothing on he asks to have a pull up when he needs to wee. Mum and dad are Russian and scared of causing problems by us h…

I have hardly any space for a role play area, but I'm going to head in over the holidays and attempt to clear a space for one. Anyone in a similar boat? I was thinking of an emergency services role play area. Any ideas of what I need to get? Thanks

construction area

For years and years I have always had the indoor construction area located on the floor. The construction pieces always end up strewn about the floor with children standing and sitting on them, it is one area that attracts the same children no matter how much bribery and enticement takes place. I am thinking that next year I am going to put it in a tray or on a table, in the hope that it will attract a different sort of play, more purposeful and a more varied customer spread. for some reason I feel this is a bit mean, Any thoughts?

book corner

Hi, over the last week we have been reviewing our classroom and talking with the children about what they have enjoyed and learnt over the year. I have not been happy with my book corner this year, as the children love to go there, as it is a cosy space. But they role play, and don't seem to notice the books! While talking to the children , one comment sticks in my mind, " I don't like the book corner cause I can't read the books!" At the moment we have familar books the children know and we read to them regulary, but we don't have the "reading scheme/phonic books" in there. We keep them separate. What does everyone else have ? I am going to get some comics and a set of…
