Hi I'm planning to introduce members of our families next week with photo's and drawings from home to make a zig zag timeline. Can anyone suggest any songs, stories or rhymes other than Here are Grandma's Spectacles? Thanks

Hi One afternoon every week I plan to have an outdoor session where all chidlren are outside for the whole time, taking part in adult led activities. These groups will rotate every week, so that my 4 activities will last 4 weeks and then the 5th week will be free play with these activities. I am going to start with: Paint splattering on large paper attached to fences Tyre rolling with soapy water and paint gardening Trays of icky sticky stuff for children to walk in bare foot and make footprints. Other ideas I have so far are: Throwing at targets Washing and pegging clothes Walking in and out of cones on stilts large chalking patterns sawing and nailing w…

Hi all Went to visit the Early Years Excellence centre in Huddusfield and would recommend it to anyone nearby! We have been looking to reorganise our construction area an are going to put mobilo out for continuous provision but sorted into it's component parts. Here i am struggling with the names of the parts, I have axles, hinges, fixers but don't know what to call the main body parts. Any ideas greatfully received!

I am trying to make up a CD for parents with the music to certain rhymes and songs so that they can practice them with their children. Does anyone know of a site where you can download the tune without worrying about copyright etc and burn it onto a CD (we'll be giving these out, not selling)

Hi! My next door neighbour has a Y1 child and as I am a FS/KS1 teacher she has asked if I would be interested in doing some after school catch up tutoring with him, I have never done it before, how much is reasonable for an hour? No agency fees etc so i don't want to rip her off or under charge! Harri

Hi All I can see that there are a lot of green fingered people on this site so I'm hoping that you can point me all in the right direction. I am hoping to start up a little vegetable garden out side my classroom. I have a small patch of grass that can be turned into a bed and am going to get some tyres from the local garrage. Any better suggestions? I'm not really sure what I should be doing/planting at this time of the year as I have nothing to tend already as I will be starting from scratch. Can I grow anything successfully at this time of the year, that won't require endless amounts of fleecing and a greenhouse?

List Of Play Activities

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the range of toys/play activities that could be put out for the children to access. For example puzzles, threading, small world etc. I want to give a copy to the Y1 teachers so they can ensure that they cover all areas of play in their classrooms! Also has anyone got a Foundation to Y1 transition policy that I could look at? Thank you in advance! Vicki

I am really in need of some advice. I am taking over a reception unit that has been in the same hands for years. Previous practice was that all children got a reading book even if they couldn't hear their phonemes yet and they are heard read individually once a week. Some of them are on these pre starter reading books for 1 year before they start Oxford reading tree becuase they are simply not ready. Others start the scheme too early and then plateau later on. Along with the reading books they are given all 26 alphabet phonemes to learn by rote! The problem is that the parents have got so used to this that they now judge their child's progress on what reading book t…
