after reading one of the topics it has raised an issue which has now got me a tadge confussed. Scale points I know the children can achieve them in any order however, how do we record what scale point they have achieved say if a child in writing gets sp1, 2, 3, 4 and 6, or any other combination. having just filled out the recent National strategy for L & S, CLL AND PSE it was a nightmare!!! Can anyone cast any light on the matter? thank you scale points

Threshold Application Advice
by Guest- 4 replies

Just wondered if anyone on here had recently completed a threshold application and got any advice? I've not got a lot of help filling it out due to changing my job and I'm finding it quite difficult. Called the NUT for advice but they were useless to be honest! Any tips or ideas of what to include would be very mcuh appreciated.

I'm really reorganising my timetable this year as this year the children haven't had enough time to really get into their play so its been a bit superficial and not such good quality play as it could be. I think they need more time and not to keep having to stop and start, so... I'm scrapping playtime and snacktime and having a rolling snacktable. I just wondered, before I do the rest of the timetable, what amount of time do you think would be the right amount of time for reception children to be able to play for extended periods without losing their focus? I know it would be different for different individuals, but for the average kind of group, what would you think?

Hi In September we will have an early years settings with a foundation unit sharing a site with a local primary school (split site) and want to share the outdoor area. The issue seems to be around responsibility, as one school( high school) has the early years setting and it is a different school(primary) who will have the reception classes. OfSTED will not agree as we are not sure who ultimately would be responsible !!! any ideas would be appreciated, someone somewhere must have this working arrangement. Thanks

Hi to all! Need some advice and pointing in right direction. 5 years ago we used to teach Rec with Y1 (Y2 sometimes), then we changed to a Foundation Stage Class with Rec / Nursery, very successfully, noticed the positive change in Reception children across all areas. We've had funding cut which means we have to return to Nursery (am only) and Rec / Y1. I dont want to teach reception children in the same way I did 5 yrs ago (VERY structured) but need some guidance on the mixing of the Y1 children. Personal exp. / websites etc - GLADLY accepted!!!

I can only imagine that this forum in inundated with requests for information/advice such as this but if there is anyone who would be kind enough to answer my questions....it would really cheer my day up! I am a KS2 trained teacher (Year 5 and 6) who has been teaching for just over 5 years now. I am going to teach Reception in September and have started to freak out! I have NO experience in this stage and have not observed anyone teaching this age group. I was given a budget to do up a classroom and have started to put all my furniture together today when all of a sudden I realised.....I don't have a clue what to do. (Not just with the furniture!) I have tra…

Foundation Unit Organisation
by Guest- 4 replies

I am just about to be the reception teacher in a foundation unit. The only other staff in the unit are two qualified TAs both very experienced in early years.Reception has 27 children full time whereas nursery is part time 12 am and a different 12 pm.Is any one else in this situation...how do you organise it successfully? My main concerns are: how we can provide continuous outdoor with only three adults in the whole setting, fit in reception weekly 1 to 1 reading (which is a whole school policy),...and so many more !!!! Be really grateful for any ideas you have found work well. Thanks Andrea71
