PARENT QUESTIONNAIRE FOR PARENTS OF NEW RECEPTION CHILDREN
by Guest hazmam- 4 replies

Hi! I know last year was hard to get a true 'baseline' with children coming into Reception with the change of curriculum. I am thinking of sending the parents a questionnaire to give me additional info as children come in from a lot of different nursery settings and information varies a lot. Has anyone done this and can share? I feel as though I want to cover the 7 areas too. Thanks!

Hi i teach in a c of e school. We have been told by our head and governors that we are in a process of consultation to look into becoming an academy. We would be an academy suported by the diocese and other c of e academy schools. Our head and governors no longer see any benefit to staying with the authority and our head is concerned about the potential constraints of draft curriculum. we have been asked to bring any concerns to the governors. Does anyone have any experience of changing to academy status? Any benefits/ pitfalls? Would welcome your experiences Thanks Debx

Hi, my class are generally very good at using resources and putting them away etc, but lately two girls play any sort of game that involves taking small items from all over the place e.g. compare bears, phonic cards, beads, jigsaw pieces, and putting them into boxes, saying that they are selling them, using them as rewards when they play schools etc. The general idea of them using these items for role play is not a problem, but at tidy up time they seem to be putting 'some' of the mess away but then just shoving the rest of it anywhere they can so it looks tidy as I have a quick look around. Then at the end of the day if I find something e.g a jigsaw piece and go to put i…

Hi all We are interviewing for 2 LSA's to work with Sen children. Initially in the EYFS but then hopefully, all going well to move through the school with the children as they get older. We have requested experience of EYFS or primary education. Was just wondering if anyone could advise me of any questions that they think should be covered in the interview? We have all the general child protection/ care questions covered, it's more the job specific ones I am thinking about. Thanks

Transition to Year 1-writing!

Hi all, I am EYFS teacher in the Year R class of a primary school. Last year (2011-2012) the KS1 staff and I attended a really good 'transition to Year 1 ' project set up by EYFS County advisers. Year R.1 and 2 teachers attended talks; looked at their individual settings; made changes and improvements that would facilitate successful seamless learning, based on the basic principles of the EYFS and then made presentations to all delegeates at the end of the project. My Year 1 teacher, who is also English manager, has just informed me that she has been told by English County advisers that from Septemeber 2013, all Year 1 children must do 30 minutes sustained writing…

Following on from my question about multicultural displays, I was wondering what sort of religious displays people have in their settings. We usually have a religious display up when we are celebrating something, eg a divali display after divali. But I was wondering more about permanent displays you might have up linked to religion. And are they linked to the cohort you have at the time?

Expected levels in writing?
by Guest- 9 replies

Just wondering if anyone else thinks that what is now regarded as expected in writing is the same as what was a point 9 which was very hard to achieve by most children in Reception. The exemplification material give examples of writing of an expected level and these are the same as what you would look at if you were awarding a child a point 9. Worried that the children will not achieve the 'expected' level despite making good progress and being well on their way to becoming writers in a play based learning environment. I have looked at the revised national curriculum and some of the ELG's could easily be part of the Year 1 objectives therefore being unfair to describe th…

I was led to believe that this forum was the place to be for all things EYFS, but it seems so quiet at the moment - is this because of report writing/time of the year? Or is it always like this? Have been having a look through old threads gathering ideas
