Heeeeeeeeelp!! I've got OFSTED next Monday and Tuesday and have gone into panic mode. I will have 3 extra adults with me during the morning session. (Class of 27 Reception children) Do you think I could have 2 focusssed activities or do they want to see more free choice? I generally have 1 adult going outside, 1 working with a group on a literacy activity, 1 working with a group on a numeracy activity and 1 floating doing observations etc. The children work on a structured rotation of activities in the morning in this (the summer term.) The last OFSTED inspector was happy with that arrangement and it went quite well but things have changed since then so I don't know …

Now, here's the thing: A few years ago I was teaching in reception and had huge obsession about getting a set of community playthings hollow blocks for our foundation stage classes. Headteacher said they cost too much - I explained how they were great value for money, would last forever, would be used constantly for all areas of the curriculum etc, she said that they were basically too expensive, which I understand. Anyway, then I had a baby, moved schools, taught as a jobshare in KS1 and put the community block obsession behind me. Now I'm back in reception, but a different school, have joined this forum where everyone talks about how wonderful they are... the obsess…

Reception Daily Routine

Hi, (PLEASE SOMEBODY REPLY TO THIS!!!) I've just taken over a Reception Class for this last term before they go into Year 1. They are a bit wild and obviously have not had the best learning experiences to date (no disrespect to inexperienced previous teacher). The classroom was very poor and did not support, challenge or promote their learning in any way. In fact, it was the worst Reception Class room I had ever seen. Everything is really old and I took 2 days during spring break to re-vamp the whole thing and change it all around and bring my own resources to help them access more learning opportunities. However, they don't seem to notice it. It's as if they h…

Literacy And School Trip Ideas
by Guest- 2 replies
- 2.1k views
Hello, I teach in Reception and we are going on a school trip this Thursday, orienteering - which will be fabulous. Just wondered if I could pick all your brains for some good ideas to tie this in with Literacy, due to only having 3 days in school because of bank holiday. Was thinking about list writing about things we need to take with us etc, and possibly poems for afterwards - but it all seems a bit random. Any ideas?? Ta! Naomi.

Hi, I was wondering if you could help? We are having some fertile eggs delivered next week and I'm just starting the planning for the topic. I have some ideas e.g. making a diary, weighing and measuring the chicks etc. but not really that many ideas for activities about the eggs! Any ideas? Thanks, Nicola

Hi all, Another daft question from a complete novice in early years below Y1. Reastically, how much continuous provision would you plan for 10 children on a daily basis? There might be 12 at a time if the 2 younger Y1 children join them, (the rest of the class are Y1/2, so will access CP sometimes, but probably not on the same scale as YR). Would you still treat the room as if you had a full class of YR, and plan for that, or would you rotate the available activities (which surely is then adult led rather than child initiated) over the course of a week? It seems a bit of a waste of time to set up lots of activities to find that whole areas could well go unused,…

Phonics Activity - Hope You Like It!

Hello everyone! I have been trying to make my phonics sessions more interesting, especially for the boys. So I've created this Ben 10 powerpoint of activtities for when I introduce a new sound. I plan to introduce 'igh' next week. I just wanted to share it with you as I get so much from this site and feel I don;t give that much back. I hope you like it! Please feel to criticise if you like, it's always good to know how to make things better! In between each task I will choose a child to carry out the task using my smartboard so we can add sound buttons etc. Thanks. Tash X igh_activity___Ben_10.ppt
