Hi I have just completed the third and final day of my CASE training today and was wondering whether anyone else on here was using the materials and what they thought about them. Specifically, if you are using the Early years materials, how do you feel they support the foundation stage curriculum? For those who don't know they are a series of materials designed to support science through speaking and listening activities, with packs aimed at Early Years (Reception), Year 1 and Year 3 and 4. Hope there is somebody out there..... Elfy x

Help Phonics Monitoring

Can anyone help my head is monitoring my phonics lessons with the new letters and sounds. I have 15 children who are working on phase 3 and she will be watching that lesson/activity that I do ater lunch. I just want to make it alive and exciting and although I do diferent activities with the children i wonder if someone has an really good activity that they do with their children. I am thinking of a bag of objects that the children write the name of on a post it etc. I know I follow the set plan of blending/ segmenting tricky words etc but my year partner has just done an all singing/dancing lesson which the head thought was great. Thanks

Magnetic Letters

Hi all Hope maybe someone can help. We're currently doing letters and sounds and want to play full circle in phase 3 - does anyone know where can we get hold of magnetic letters that come as a unit for the graphemes sh ch th ee ai etc that don't cost a fortune as we need to have a least 10 sets so children can work in pairs - other than that has anyone tackled this in another way - my only alternative is to sit and glue the letters together - something I 'm not sure I fancy doing but I suppose it wouldn't take that long ! Thanks

I was reading this on the bbc news site this morning and wondered what the teachers here actually thought about homework. I have always spoken out against homework for many of the reasons stated in the article plus a lot of other more personal objections! At various times the homework we have received home has been boring/repetitive/pointless/inappropriate/lengthy to name but a few. I don't blame the teachers for this - they are already stressed from too much paperwork and overloaded with things to do, fitting in time to plan homework must be a nightmare. As a parent, trying to find the time to do it, and motivating the children can be extremely tough. And I am doubly fru…

The Train Ride - Planning
by Guest- 3 replies

Hello, I was wondering whether anybody could give me some ideas to do around The Train Ride. I thought combining 2 groups to find total using people on train carriages for MD, litreacy I'm a bit stuck... thought the children could make a story map of the train ride. What I really struggle with is daily CLLD and MD carpet sessions linked to the topic and, if I have two focus group activities for MD & CLLD, then relating the carpet session to these, as the focus group activities tend to be ongoing throughout the week - my TA and I work with a group each in each CLLD & MD session. I have been told that maybe I'm being too formal - i've come down from key…

Photographs

Can anyone help? I am obviously taking photographs for evidence and have made a folder for each child in Nursery on the school computer. At the end of the year, I wanted to put the photos onto a CD and give one to each of the parents. I have been told this is fine by one manager, but another has said absolutely not- I could compormise children's safety as these photos could some how end up being circulated onto the internet. Anyone got any rules or regs they can direct me to read? All I want to do is give a lovely souvenir of the Nursery year! Thanks.

Welcome Pack

My setting is in the process of producing a welcome pack for parents. (it eventually got to the top of the very long list of 'must do's' for my setting which is fairly new, the setting that is, not the list ). Of course some of the details will be individual to my setting, but would anyone please share with me their contents page in case i miss anything out. It's been a long time coming, so I want to make it as user friendly and useful as possible. any other tips and recommendations for involving parents/carers/families/community would be very, very welcome. thanks in anticipation. Sam X
