Hi, wondering if anyone can shed light on my query? Is it standard practise for the EYFS leader not to have any experience in Early Years and not be the Reception teacher? I am the Reception teacher, responsible for everything EYFS and provide regular feedback to SMT for assessment, progress etc. The EYFS leader openly admits knowing zero about early years - are other people in this situation? I am considering looking for an EYFS leader position as I feel a little overlooked in my current role. Any thoughts would be gratefully received. Thanks!

Hi, Sorry this one is a bit of a moan and a bit of a cry for moral support! Does anyone else who works in Nursery or Reception find themselves completely disrespected as a teacher within their school? I keep getting little 'digs' as if I'd be completely incapable of teaching anywhere else but the Foundation Stage! For example, I've recently been asked to cover a teacher in KS1 on a couple of mornings (while my student is teaching). Last week she 'instructed' me that she doesn't let them talk over her and they must put their hands up! and this week her TA told me she "would hold my hand!" It was also supposed to be her yard duty which she promptly asked the deputy head …

Hi, Please can I ask for some professional/legal advise. We have a child in our class ( reception - class of 30) who has a 'medical' problem and cannot tell when she is going to the toliet. It is deemed mecial however we haven't yet had any evidence from doctors etc. She can have poo accidents up to 17 times in one day ( although the maximum we have had is 7). She is happy to sit in her own waste and when we ask her to go to the toliet she refuses. I am blessed to have a wonderful TA and part time NN who take her to clean her up however we have to change her, wipe her and make sure she is clean as she will not do it herself. I feel in such a difficult position, …

Hi, I currently have a GTP student in my Nursery Class. She is planning and teaching the morning session. We have a long session which is purely CI so in essence there is nothing in terms on planning apart from enhancements and individual 'next steps'. She wants me to observe her during our CI session but I'm not sure how to fill in the form. It is clearly designed for use higher up the school and includes a tick-list of points such as "lesson follows a structured format", "plenary used well to review learning", "objectives clearly outlined at beginning of lesson", "lesson has clear beginning" etc all which does not lend itselfs to CI 'teaching'. Has anyone had any exper…

Hi all, In previous years we have always used the living egg company and every year enjoyed seeing the eggs hatch - my Head has decided that this is now too expensive and said we can't do it this year (£250 for the package) Does anyone know of any local farms or anywhere that hire out incubators in the Surrey/ Hampshire area that do it cheaper? Look forward to hearing from anyone, thanks LKMorris

Deputy Manager Interview

Hello everyone, I have an interview next week for a deputy manager position of a private day nursery that has 60 children from 0-5, these are internal interviews and I will be competing against collegues. I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on the types of questions that may be asked, or how I could better prepare myself. I have been told to prepare a presentation but with little guidance, I have done this presentation on how I think I can help support/grow the nursery and what impact I think I would have on the setting, this covering marketing to managing staff and curriculum. Do you think this is appropriate and what kind of questions do you think…

Outraged by new EYT
by Guest- 4 replies

just heard about the new EYT status, starting in september 2013, I have just gained EYPS this spring, and am absolutely gutted that this will now be a second class old qualification after self funding and a lot of hard work. These standards are extremely similar to the 2012 EYPS standards, just re worded! It's almost as if those who gained EYPS in 2012 were the dummy run for this new EYT status. but eyp's will be left with an older less recognised qualification just as more settings were being to understand what EYPS was. I realize they say EYPS will be equlivlent but who can keep up will all these different qualification certainly not employers!, I self funded and now …

I am a teacher in a small EYFS classroom which gets very cold when the door is open for free flow. We are thinking on buying PVC door curtains, designed especially to solve this problem. Has anyone already got these and can recommend them? What are the pros and cons? Is it still possible to see the children clearly, as the learn outside Thank you
