Hi, just wondering if you guys can help me. A couple of weeks ago I was having a look at some previous forum posts when I came across a link to a website that had short video clips of a teacher doing the jolly phonics actions, pronouncing the sound correctly etc etc. It was a schools website. Stupidly I didn't save the web address in 'my favourites'. I'm now in the process of putting together an information evening for parents on phonics, reading and writing and I really want to show parents that website. Trouble is I've searched previous forum posts and don't seem to be able to find it! Does anyone know what I'm on about or more importantly were I can find it? …

Hi all This is my first posting so probably about to reveal my ignorance..! I am thoroughly enjoying using the Letters and Sounds guidance, and am seeing the children make good progress. But, when should capital letters and letter names be introduced? Obviously the big focus is on getting children knowing and using the sounds, but at some stage they need to know capitals and letter names. Any thoughts? Sarah

My son is in reception year and has dyspraxia. He has had occupational therapy and is really coming on well with his gross and fine motor skills. At home we have tried cursive handwriting with him as his school starts cursive from reception. He has found it very difficult and developed a complete aversion to fine motor skills. We then tried with print and he has found the letter formation much easier. He has developed sufficiently well to write his name and other words and feels very proud of himself. We mentioned that to his school teacher and she said that it was completely unacceptable to do printed writing in the school even if he is on the SEN register. They s…
