Teaching Re In Foundation Stage

Help please I teach Reception Class in a Church of England School. At a meeting tonight we were rejigging the RE Policy and I asked my RE co-ordinatory how exactly should I be teaching RE in the Foundation Stage. At the moment, I follow the Scheme of Work used by the RE co-ordinator but tend to concentrate more on the Bible stories. I usually manage to "fit this in" from about 2.45-3.10 p.m., the children do not, at the moment, complete any follow up work on the story. The children in KS1 and KS2 have to spend a specific amount of time on RE every week, but my co-ordinator did not really have much idea of how I should be teaching it in Reception Class. She did s…

Hi, I've just returned to teaching Reception after maternity leave and I've got to deliver ERR to the class.... and I have very little to go on. I know what order to teach the initial sounds and then apparently its on to VC words and ... 'building up sounds to hear the words' and 'chopping up words to hear the sounds' But is there anything easy and straightforward to read in the way of training materials or does anyone have any advice for me?? Thanks Jane

Carpet Times
by Guest- 2 replies

How many carpet times do you have in reception and what do you do in them? At the moment in my school we have 3-4. One of which is always phonics, and the others vary (story, shared writing, etc). We are feeling very pressured at the moment (although nothing has been directly said) towards literacy/numeracy focus. It is a complete nightmare trying to fit it in. I know fitting things in is always going to be an issue but how do others manage?

Writing Outdoors

Can anyone help with ideas about how to set up writing opportunities outdoors? I'm afraid I haven't managed to do this yet. We have 2 picnic benches just outside the classroom door but we can not really leave the door open, firstly for fire safety reasons and secondly it is now too cold. The recent discussion on twig pencils started me thinking about rustic ideas. Courses I have been on suggest a wheelable writing trolley, but on a rustic theme, maybe wicker baskets would be good?

Hi We have raised some money to improve our very small and badly situated outside area. We've come up with lots of ideas so far, but we are lacking in contacts for companies that can help in designing the area renovating it. Does anyone have any suggestions of companies to contact, the only one I've come up with so far is playforce but they only do playground equipment which we don't have space for. Thanks

Hi all I plan for my reception class using 6 topics: Aut 1 Ourselves Aut 2 Colour light and celebration Spr 1 Weather and water Spr 2 Plants and animals Sum 1: Stories Sum 2:Transport Do people think this is still the best way to go? what I do is take a sub topic each week e.g. in Aut 1 we looked at nursery rhymes, senses, homes, school/community etc. This term AUt 2 we have gone of on a bit of a tangent with a bears week-we have a tenuious link to light and dark with a cave role play etc-but lots more bear activites. Does this seem ok to others? Some times i think i provide may lovely experience but struggle to justify the 'learning' that has take…
