Pronunciation Of Phonemes
by Guest- 7 replies

Hi, Wonder if anyone can help me. Does anyone know where I can download some sound files that pronounce the english phonemes? I wanted to create powerpoint slides that correctly pronounce the sounds as they are displayed. I've tried to do a search on the internet but am not having much luck. I have found examples of other powerpoints with phonemes pronounced on the teacher exchange website but I don't know how to get the sound files off of them. Hope this all makes sense and that someone can help me! Mandy

Last Half Hour Of The Day
by Guest- 4 replies

What do people out their do in the last half a hour of school? The children come in from play at 2.30, leaving me with 35 mins to keep them amused. I really feel like I'm not making full use of this time. I normally read a story, play a phonics game or do some singing etc, but the children get very restless- 35mins is a long time to sit on the carpet! Any ideas / advise would be gratefully received.

by Guest heleng- 2 replies

I am new to FS having taught in Year 1 for the past 6 years. I am still working on my timetable and need some help please!!! I have changed it several times already. We have restrictions as the Reception class is part of the main school and we have assembly times and playtimes etc to fit in. We also share the space with the nursery class that runs 9-11.30am then 12.45-3.15pm. The teacher who I have taken over from now teaches in the Nursery class. There are also difficulties as we have three term intake due to having a nursery class on site, so we get a new intake every term. At the moment we have daily whole class maths input, literacy input, phonics session…

Hi all, I have had a really awful day and am feeling rubbish! My new Reception class are proving a challenge at the best of times but today they just got the better of me! The day started badly because my assistant arrived late as she was stuck in traffic. The noise level increased steadily. I gathered the children on the carpet to discuss noise levels and then let them return to their activities but to no avail! My assistant is great but has a very loud voice which doesn't help when trying to calm the class. We then went on to have two unsucsessful carpet sessions, before and after break with seeminly no child listening to a word I said. Just alot of fidgeting! I do unfo…

I have a child in my reception class who has SEN and is developmentally behind his peers at 2 and 1/2 yrs. I am early years trained and have some experience of nursery but was wondering if anyone had any ideas for what experiences I should provide? Whilst he does join in counting rhymes and jolly phonic actions he cannot really access most of what the other children are doing. I was thinking maybe sensory activities such as cornflour and creating big circular patterns etc Many thanks
