Ruth Miskin - Read Write

In light of Rose report, we're evaluating current practice at school and are considering future purchases. Initially planned to buy Jolly Phonics stuff (don't have any at present), but one our new KS2 teachers said she did teaching practice in a school where they had introduced a scheme by Ruth Miskin. She said the school reported fantastic results, and that it was a complete scheme, complete with lesson plans outlining everything needed. Just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of this, and if so, what do you think of it? Harricroft

Meg And Mog - One Less Ideas
by Guest- 1 reply

I have a mixed Reception/Year One class, my head is coming to observe a numeracy focus in a week's time. Our theme for the week is Meg and Mog and I'd like to link it to the concept of finding one less. I've thought about having a broomstick with pictures of Meg/Mog and the children have to find 1 less. Has anybody got any ideas for independent/group activities? Thanks

HI Got parents' evenings next week and was wondering whether people go through all the points on the profile , write notes of their own, or anything different. 10 minutes really isn't very long. I also need to get the parents to write a comment too. What do you do?

Pictures Of Sound And Word Wall

The sounds just need putting back in the correct order (the teacher last year wanted the chilgren to learn the single sounds first). the children have a butterfly with there names on and as they learn their sounds they move up the wall. The word wall still needs a title and the childrens individual humptys are on the bottom . When they start word building and can read the words they move up onto different levels of the wall. Then when they can spell all the reception words they get a crown for their humpty. the S.M.T still want records at the end of reception on who can read/ spell these words. The word and sound wall stay up all year which is good because we have 45…

Fs Lesson Observation Proforma
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi, Please excuse me if I haven't asked my question in the correct place - I am new to this! We have just started our performance management cycle and our lesson observation forms are very KS1/2 specific. Does anyone have a lesson observation form that is suitable for FS lesson observations? Anything would be appreciated as a starting point. Thanks!

Hi, In a couple of weeks I'm going to have an open afternoon and invite the parents in during the last 30 mins of the day (Reception class). I was just wondering if anyone has done something similar using a short dvd to demonstrate foundation stage curriculum. I'm not very confident in front of large group of parents and would rather show them something and then encourage discussion and perhaps a look round the classroom and time to chat. Rachel

A Very Noisy Class!
by Guest- 10 replies

I have inherited a rather loud class of children this year! My TA and I cant believe quite how noisy they are and it seems to be the general standard for the whole class not just some of them, even though we never see any particular ones shouting or raising their voice... a rather puzzling mystery! We have started using the calm music as a strategy for trying to quieten them down but was wondering if anyone else had any tips that they could share! Or any particular music that they could recommend, think my weekend is going to include downloading various tracks! I had an unexpected lesson observation earlier in the week (that'll teach me for not looking at the d…

Class Pets?

I'm moving into the Foundation Stage to teach Reception from September. The space is shared with our nursery and after talking to the nursery nurse and LSA we have decided we want a pet. We don't want fish. I have asked at the local pet shop and they recommend guinea pigs. We would get one for the nursery and one for Reception and they would live together. Does anyone else have pets? Does anyone else have guinea pigs?
