Hi I'm new to Reception teaching (I taught year 1 before) & I'm feeling a bit lost! I was just wondering if anyone would mind outlining how a day runs in their reception class? We have changed our timetable & from tomorrow we are going to have continuous provision for 9am - 10am & then focused writing input from 10am - 10.30am. Then it will be continuous provision for the rest of the morning with focused writing activites. We do counting rhymes & phonics before lunch. Afternoon is continuous provision with 2 focused activites. We have 2 reception classes, but the children have access to both classrooms, so it's more of a recep…

Does anyone have any idea about what is happening with mathematical development with the new maths framework. I have the only reception class in our school. Other teachers have begun to use new planning formats and talk about the new framework. I have looked on the standards website but I just end up even more confused!!!!

Maths Lessons

Trying to get my head around the renewed framework in reception - eek! Can anyone recommend a really good teacher resource book which has very detailed daily lesson plans? Have already got Scholastic's '100 maths lessons and more' but find some of the activities a bit boring. I need something that is easy to follow and halves the amount of planning time we have to do.

New Literacy And Maths Framework

Hi, has anyone managed to get their heads around how the new Literacy and Maths framework effects Reception? I'm finding it very hard to do the planning, especially the Maths. Are we supposed to be following the blocked units like the other year groups? (looking at the Leicester county council website it looks like some places are advocating this). I'm having great difficulty setting up a medium term plan! Any suggestions/websites would be very much appreciated! Thanks Mandy

Writing In Reception

Hi! I was just wondering how much and what type of writing any reception teachers out there do with their children. Previously, my children have written weekend news in their 'diaries' each week. However, Some children's sentences were very similar each week e.g. I went to the park etc etc and then any writing linked to topic work. Obviously there is independent mark making, water/chalk writing outdoors etc aswell. I have a book by Ros Bayley called 'Creative Writing' (I think, can't find it at minute!) and it has some lovely ideas to facilitate ideas for writing e.g. taking a cake in class, cutting it open and finding a key inside - what might this key unlock? or ta…
