Dance For Early Years Teachers

This afternoon I have been on a training session for Dance for Early Years Teachers. Just had to say it was FAB. The course was laid on by Creative Partnerships and supported by the Leicestershire Dance Network and delivered by Louise Katerga. The course involved getting children to work together or as a whole group, using hoops, balls, material, parts of the body etc etc. Such wonderful ideas were given and for once all age appropriate to the children i.e. 2 - 5 years. A colleague and I attended together and our heads are now buzzing with fab things that we can introduce next term. We have enough knowledge now to keep us going for the whole year!!! …

Hi everyone, It is my reception open evening for new parents next week and I have just had a meeeting with my head who says that he wants us to go into far more detail than last year. Last you we did a formal presentation of just 4 slides in the main school hall with all FS and management staff present. 1st slide discussed general things such as times of school days, dinner money, etc etc. 2nd slide was an overview of FS currciulum - 6 areas of learning, ELGs. 3rd slide went into detail about play based currciulum - indoor and outdoor and offered an example of this and last slide was all to do with parents. However this year he says he wants us to go into more detai…

'new Class' Afternoon
by Guest- 1 reply

Hi I am soon to be a NQT and next week will be going into my new school to meet my new class. I only have 45 minutes with them and just wondered if anyone could suggest some fun activities. The class will be year 1 in Sept although have only been in school for a term as they are the summer born children, so more like Reception. I was thinking about starting with a short circle time - getting to know each other, then designing a picture to go next to their coat peg and finishing off with some singing and a story. However, I would really appreciate any better ideas! Ideally, I do not want to rely on the schools resources as I do not know what they have. Any advi…

Whole School Subject Coordinators

Hi I've just disovered this site whilst looking for help/support. I teach Reception at a primary school where there are two Reception Classes, 3KS1 classes and 6 KS2 classes. We Early Years folk seem to be constantly seen as a pain at Staff Meetings when we have to tactfully say that we do things differently, or our subject areas are not as clearly defined as KS1 and 2 subject areas seem to be. Do most schools have the Early Years team working alongside the rest of the school using their own systems of assessment and budget or do subject coordinators consider the Reception Classes to be part of their remit? We have an on-site playgroup with whom we plan and liase an…

Display Timesaver Ideas
by Guest- 9 replies

After spending what seems an age cutting out lettering and hanging up backing I wonder whether anyone has any pearls of wisdom about 'short cuts' when doing displays. I spent what seemed like a large chunk of my PPA this afternoon looking for the capital G template for my Goldilocks display a collegue showed we a really quick way of making lettering and I thought I just had to share it!!! If you go into word and type the letters that you want (onto Landscape is easier) highlight it and go into format and then font. Choose the font you want and then where it says 'effects' click on outline - all your letters sound now be just thin black lines waiting to be cut out…
